Rusty Exhaust Pipe

This the front section of the car, the length of pipe that runs from the engine to the catalytic converter. What would the procedure be for replacing it? Would I tear that whole pipe out?

Sounds like the down pipe - from the manifold to the cat. replace the entire part - get new gaskets and new hardware if it is rusted as well. Pretty straight forward stuff.

The headers (manifolds) are cast iron and rust doesn't harm or distroy them.

if you want to make them look better, just brush off the rust and paint with a high temp exhaust paint
