RennTech modified 500 E question..
Guys,i have a line on a 1991 500 E with rennTech 6 L engine matted to a 6 speed transmission along with an LSD.Just wondering what you all think this car is worth and whether i should even consider it buying or not ? It's a one owner car in mint condition and although i haven't seen the dyno graph yet but suppose to be making 469 hp and get this the car has 31,000 original miles ?
Any way i am planning on picking up either a 03 E 55 or a 03 ///M5 early next year but have always longed for a 500 E and since this bad boy has a 6-speed trnsmission too, thats why i am bit confused..
Help greatly appreciated ?

With that 500e you can get almost as much HP or even more as the M5 or the 03' E class man. If i was you and for the money ill take the 500E all day! And thats half the cost of all those 03' cars.

I truly adore such a car and I would love to have one. But, only if it's a toy (i.e, i have another car that I drive everyday). Otherwise....
The W211 E55, while it may not have the persona of the 500E, does have tons of power. It looks great and most are still covered by the Benz warranty.
The E55Kompressor is also very modifiable..

I think the price has been dropped to 50K on that blue 6-speed 500E recently... cool car , but the custom interior, wow, you either need to love it or hate it.
For that price you can get into a stock 04' E55 , which would spank that modded 500E. I just met a local guy with an 05' E55 with a few mods and it pulls 11.6s in the 1/4mile.

CLK63 Black, E350 Wagon, Supercharged Denali, Lotus Elise, Tesla Model 3 Dual-Motor.
I saw that car years ago while it was apart and being done at RennTECH.

W124
469hp sounds a little high. E60 is 380hp and near enough the same.
6 speed box and LSD sound interesting though.
E60 would be easier from a spares point of view.

And those "few mods" done to the 11sec 211 e55 a certainly going to cost more than a "few dollars"!!
From my point of view a 6litre 124 is unique, 211 e55's are not. Plus 124's can be considered keepers and can be restored in your garage if you have the skill. 211's are big computers!

500E Signal Rot
500E
Mercedes also included a sport version of the W124, created in close cooperation with Porsche. Called the 500E through model year 1993, in 1994, the 500E was face-lifted and re-badged the E500 (at which time Mercedes also brought assembly back in house). The 500E had a 32-valve V8 engine delivering 322 hp (240 kW) and 354 ft·lb (480 N·m), with the engine being derived from the R129 500SL roadster. Sports car braking performance also came SL components. Front SL500 300mm disks with 4-piston calipers came installed on the 1992 and early 1993 cars. The later 1993, and all 1994 cars came with the upgraded 320mm set taken from the 600SL. Rear brakes on all years were 277mm brakes from the 500SL.
In the USA, the 500E came fully-loaded, with the only options available to the buyer being a dealer-installed CD changer, or an integrated telephone. The 500E was only available as a four-seater, with the four leather seats supplied by Recaro. Each 500E was hand built by Porsche, being transported back and forth between the Mercedes plant and Porsche's Rossle-Bau plant in Zuffenhausen during assembly---taking a full 18 days to complete each model. Between 1991 and 1995, Mercedes/Porsche built a total of 10479 500E's. Of these, 1505 of the "super" sports sedans were imported into the USA between 1992-1994, or roughly 500 cars per year of importation. The 500E came in a number of colors, with the special-order, "040" cars (black on black), widely considered the most desirable. With its aggressive stance: 1.5 inches wider track, 0.9 inch lower profile, flared fenders, front air-dam and wide tires, the 500E is easily distinguished from its lesser brethren.
Magazines tests of the day, recorded 0-60 mph (97 km/h) times of 5.5 seconds and acceleration through the quarter-mile (0.4 km) in 14.1 seconds at 101 mph (163 km/h). Top speed was electronically limited to 155 mph (251 km/h). It was rated at 14 mpg (16.8 L/100 km) in the city and 17 mpg (13.8 L/100 km) on the highway.
