Hello All,
My daughter's 1989 260E has developed a problem. The a/c blows very cold BUT the center a/c vents have stopped working. I can move the dial that is used to open and close the vent and it appears to be working fine. So, what is the problem? How do I fix it or how much will it cost to be fixed?
Thanks!!

When you have air set to come out of center vents does it come out of defrost vent? If so the vacuum element that controls the center vent may have a leak and fail to operate. If that is the case the dash has to come off to change that element. It can be expensive if you have someone do it. The part itself is not expensive.

Don't recall price of that vacuum element. Probably somewhere between $25- $50.
Don't know cost to remove dash to do that one element, if it is indeed leaking. I've only taken dashes apart to do evaporator and as part of job I replace all 6 vacuum elements and blower motor.
