I've seen a few of his MB collection - may I add that it's one of the most impressive and rarest collection of Mercedes I've ever laid eye on. Then again - he's crazy - he practically owns every car and some cars with every color available.

think about it: one of the first McLaren SLRs in western Canada was bought by a memeber of the Washington family - the family that owns Seaspan, the trans-oceanic shipping company. He paid almost 3/4 Mil for the car. Do you REALLY think he'd have the time to chat it up with us here on MBWorld?

Still, it would be pretty cool if one of them did.

Erm..it takes a little more than just swapping an M117 into a W124.

The car that is widely recognized as the true AMG Hammer (the dispute about the C124 and W126 Hammer notwithstanding) is the W124 sedan. To covert the W124 into a Hammer, AMG took the M117 and bored it out to 6.0L. They also added twincam heads. The stock M117 has only one cam per cylinder bank.

In order to fit the, now considerably wider, engine into the engine bay of the W124 (remember it was only ever designed to house an in-line 6) the firewall has to be modified. This could require the battery to be relocated to the trunk.

Furthermore, AMG grafted in the entire drivetrain from the S-Class.

Then you have to consider the suspension, computer, wiring harness, etc.

When Mercedes & Porsche built the 500E, they used over 4000 parts that were not used in the production of the "regular" W124. Obviously AMG would not have been as thorough, but that tells you a little about how much work goes into converting the W124.

Not trying to burst your bubble, just want you to know what you could be in for.

You my friend will get one someday ... when you become lucky. LOL

No, but really - Just constant searching on Ebay.com/co.uk/de, Craigslist and other listing/auction sites and you'll find them. Although ... the ones I've seen lately have been pretty pricey.

Agreed.

AMG was very much an a la carte operation in the 1980's - people could mix and match whatever they wanted. Hundreds, probably thousands, of MB owners bought the cosmetics, but only a very very small percentage of them bought the performance goodies too ($$$$$$$$).

Of the cars that were shown on Miami Vice, most were probably just cosmetics. Besides, I don't think the producers would have wanted to spend the money actually buying/rent the real cars to drive around on set when they could get look-alikes for far less.

Hahaha...thanks.

Unfortunately the forum where I had a bunch of pics hosted got hacked and the pics are no more.

I have copies on my HD, but haven't had time to upload them to photobucket yet. I'll let you guys know when I do.

I'm currently trying to get the Mods to change my signin. I'm "yvrbenz" in most of the other MB Forums.

May I ask - Do you have any sources or informational websites in regards to the Hammer? I only know of very few.

I don't know of any Hammer specific sites. Mind you, I haven't ever really gone looking for them.

I'm a car nut. Specifically a Mercedes car nut lol. I read stuff about cars and I just retain the knowledge. I wish I could have done the same with my schoolwork when I was in school. lol
