oh god this is weird..

Hey guys,
I've been trying to check the VIN data of my car for a long time but had never been able to fetch any constructive info. (e.g. from the Russian site)..

I was just wondering if the VIN of my car had been tampered with before? The VIN seems to be wrong and I can't search for any of the VIN data other than those really generic ones (e.g. car is made in Germany).. One site even showed that my car was made in 2002!

Any help?

Jeff

VIN Number Plates usually are Rivetted, not "SCREWED"! I guess you are!

Oh but this could be explained as my mom has crashed the car before, and was thereafter fixed

The weirdest thing is, the car was brought from new, by my parents

Hey Jeff,

I don't mean to sound like a jackass but you are writing WDB and not just the numbers correct?

LOL mate, not at all.. But for the point that you've very kindly pointed out, I'm afraid the answer is yes.

There you go.. WDB!

Hey, how bad was your crash? Even if it crashed, they could have re-rivetted the plate back. Why use cheap screws and get caught?

This doesn't look like a USA VIN plate, as "124" is not normally the first thing after WDB. Mine is EA90, indicative of 124.090, i.e. 300TE.

USA cars also have vin stamped on firewall, on a plate visible through windshield, etc.

Might let the list know where you are, as most of us in USA can't help you if you're not.

EPC says your car is a 220E/E200 from 10/92 or 200D-300D from 7/93, so it's a valid number if that corresponds.

My VIN is just a sticker, you can see it when you open the drivers door. The plate in fron of the engine above the radiator just contains some weired random numbers.

Japanese spec 124 here.

If you owned it since brand new, don't you have any kind of previous registration or records?

Thanks for all the replies guys. As to the above, I actually do have all the invoices and documents with me but they show the same VIN.. Even on the document which shows that the car was imported as a Brand New Vehicle in late 1993..

It's also on the firewall.

Stand in front and look at your battery.

Lower your eyes to the painted sheet metal in front of the battery.

lots of cars
I had a 230E and it showed is was made in 2001 but the car is from 1985. That's how all european mercedes show up in the vin decoders so don't worry about the vin number i'm sure everything is correct.
