I am really sorry about this. Life is more important.
I know how much we all love our cars, but look at it... It took that impact and you walked out safely.

I've been through some serious crashes in my w124's. My mechanic even refuses to do upgrades and all for me saying its a waste of time and I will be back in a few days! However, its the love that makes me keep this baby.

P.S Mine has been in a worse crash than this! I am still driving her though. The crashes just gave me chance to upgrade the busted parts. THE SAD part is that I ended up paying for the upgrades on a few ocasions.

I used to drive like a nut case until my last crash. An 18 wheeler trailer hit me while I was parked and took off. Some Arab saw his plates and left a note on my windshield in Arabic. I called the cops and they said this note is not good enough and also the plate number is missing the color code (they have plates coded alphabetically here). However, the cop was a nice guy and traced the truck down and got the driver to pay!

CHRIS.... I AM REALLY SAD ABOUT THIS CRASH. You should've put the W124 TANK in reverse and really PHUCKED that piece of *****!

Dude, lemme talk to the guy who has them right now. Just gimme two-three days as all my stuff is gone for re-finishing. So is my car for a new paint job.

Hey Chris,

I am just waiting for the paint job to be done. The guy told me give him another 3-4 days. Then the car will go for the rims change. I have to exchange the 15" with the AMG Hammers. Only then I can get the other caps from him. I will let you know ASAP!

The bad news: Shipping costs from here would be around $27 I THINK. I will check on that and see what I can do to get that as low as possible.

 

you're still here and you're (relatively) unhurt, so the car did its job. a car is replacable, even one with blood sweat and tears in it. a human life is not.

this is why i lent my car to my cousin a month after she got her license. she needed it, well, any car really, to do her internship, but i wanted her in my tank coz i knew shed survive anything short of a tsunami in it. she walked away from 2 accidents, safe and sound, and thats far more important than ANY car. if i had to do it all over again, i'd have comprehensive insurance with uninsured driver coverage. that'd be the only change.

this is why we buy these old tanks. you cant beat that old made of steel quality with a newer car. you just get fancier toys and more airbags. common sense, defensive driving, and awareness in traffic beat an airbag most days.

let me throw out a few suggetions.
coupe
400E
500E (then i can buy your wheels )
E39 BMW M5 (dont hate, game recognise game!!!)
E46 M3. these last two might not be in the budget.
R129
W126 coupe (you know theyre beautiful.)

but id just go with another 124. you already know the things you did wrong with your last one. you already have an idea how to do it right. take your time finding one. check out ebay and craigslist, talk to local benz mechanics ask around if they know of someone selling a clean 124. maybe they have one on lien.

also since your car is being totaled, you will (i think) have to buy it back to be able to salvage all the parts from it. if you can find all your receipts for the euro lights and springs and shocks and so on, you can recoup that cost. otherwise to get the wheels, you should put on four wheels on it so it can be towed and so on. ill volunteer my spare if you need one. i think its off a 201 coz its noticably narrower but still a 15 hole alloy. it has a cheap bald tire on it anyway.
DONT JUST SETTLE FOR THE FIRST OFFER THEY HAND YOU UNLESS ITS MAD STUPID MONEY. make a counteroffer with all of your reciepts or a list of all your modifications. and dont just list "euro lights, $400," list the bulbs as well.
spings, shocks, assorted nuts and bushings (are they gonig to know you didnt replace them with new ones? perhaps you really had your whole suspensino done and you only remembered the shocks and springs).
stereo, cd changer and wiring. all the little things add up.
make sure you see a doctor. make sure any settlement will account for future health issues.

like i said, if you need a wheel to keep yours, you can have my spare. just holla. and get better.

The C32 will spoil you with power once you drive it. A friend of mine has one with the EvoSport Stage I kit... and man does it pull hard as the revs rise (compared to my CLK55 ..)

Sorry for your loss, Chris. At least the crumple zones worked and you and your friend are ok.

Last year my mom was driving to the grocery store when some bimbette (too young and stupid to be a full-fledged bimbo ) in a honda civic comes driving out of the parking lot, ignores the stop sign and, while looking to the right, proceeds to make a left turn...right onto the passenger side of our 1970 280SL. Nails the right front rim and shock tower.

She said she didn't see my mom. It's a white car against a backdrop of green trees. Of COURSE she couldn't see it, she was looking the wrong way. Turns out she'd had her licence for all of 3 months.

It's a good thing I wasn't there, I'd have had the dumb (insert your choice of derogatory comments here) in tears in 1/2 a heartbeat.

On the other side of the coin, my dad was driving one of the 500Es and rear-ended another car.

The damage was no where near as bad as your car is and the adjuster wanted to write off the car ($16,000 damage). Anywho...get a 500E, they're pretty cheap now. $10K - $15K US

 

I remember seeing this for sale a while back and I think they wanted 75K or so for it
