My exhaust stinks... and car smokes now
I will be idleing at a stop light with the windows down and I can smell it... it just smells hot, not like a bad cat. conv. just hot. I failed emissions a month ago and went to my mechanic who adjusted something and it then passed, smell went away a little bit after that. But now it's back with a vengence... and now when I accelerate from the light I get a puff of blue smoke (how embarassing). When I punch it to pass someone, I get smoke too.
What is the cause of this? Fuel injection problems? Bad o2 sensor (no Chk Eng Lt on)? Need new plugs/wires? Air Filter? All of the above?
There is no oil in the coolant, no smell of coolant, no coolant consumption, no smell of burning oil, no oil consumption. It just stinks and smokes on acceleration.
The car does not perform any differently than any other 300E's I have driven, there is no complaints there other than when it's cold 1st thing in the morning it feels like it hesitates a little bit, but not to the point I think it might die.
I wish I had something to compare the odor too... almost like fireworks only less sulfuric (Thanks X03
)...Any help will be appreciated...

But, I am not ruling out the oil as I need all the info I can get to give to the service center when I take it in Monday.
And the car has just turned 120,000 miles
Thanks, and if anyone else has some info I am glad to take it.
