Auto-focus rear view mirror, anyone?

Too bad I can't attach any pictures. Does anyone has rear view mirror with manual adjustment(I guess it works as a dimmer)?

The w124 was offered a auto dimming mirror during 1994-1995 model year. It was a VERY VERY RARE option and you may never ever see one again.

This is a simple modification and quite affordable as well.

Scroll down to the mirror update section

If you'd care to expand on that? I'd love to rig an auto dimming mirror.

edit - according to Mercedes Shop the parts # B6 6 81 8602 and it should cost around 178 USD.

Heya,
I've got the auto dimming mirrors and no, I'm not here to take the pi$$..
AFAIK, late W124s here in Hong Kong come standard with these mirrors and I'll prolly be able to hook everyone up with it if it needs be.. It'll be from the scrappy though..

Pics to follow.

MGW, Sorry but I really have no idea as to cost. It'll depend heavily on the mood of the scrappy

Here's the pics.. Don't know if this is the one you guys are talking about but it has auto dimming..

Hmm, my mirror is a OE Mercedes mirror, although not OE for the W124, it is a better design which includes the homelink controls. Any late model MB mirror can be retro fitted very easily. Some come with map lights, others have integrated LED's for the auto lock/unlock and alarm functions. The high end ones utilize a console mounted switch to control the adjustments of the mirror.

These mirros can be purchased for as little as $25 from Ebay, good luck finding a original W124 auto dimming mirror, they are no longer available and extremely rare to locate used.

My current project is modifing a SLK auto dimming mirror so it can use the OE mount, although the original mount works fine (see my web site) I just want to see if it can easily be done without too much trouble. So far, its taking more work then its worth.

I got the same one in those pictures but i made mine. I don't really know what kind it is ( found it in the garage ) but looks the same.

What i did to mine was to take the auto dimming apart and take the original one apart and cut out the mount and glue it on the other one. Pretty easy if you know how to weld plastic together.

Thanks again for posting the pics. I'd love to pick one up if you can get them readily.

RE - C Class style mirror: I'd rather have the flush ceiling mount and the stock look in this case. I wouldn't have a use for the homelink function. Reading lamps are a cool feature though.

Will sure talk to the scrappy about the mirrors..

On the other hand though, I'm also thinking about retrofitting a W210 RVM to my W124... I think it looks much better than the W124 one..

I've been trading emails with Bob Geco at Mercedes Shop and he found the following from his Mercedes Canada contact.

- Rear View Mirror B6 6 81 8602 is still available but only as a special order item.

- It now costs $321.70, and is non returnable.
