DIY Question

Hey guys, i would like to take out my plastic insert that is behind the grill (the grey plastic piece), i want to paint it black. Has anyone done this themselfs, and if so how do you get the part out, i tried this afternoon but i had this feeling that i might break something so figured i would ask here and see if someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Sean

there are six bolts that hold the entire grill assembly on the hood (the chrome surround, black insert, and I think the hood star as well). Two bolts are pretty obvious while the other four are tucked behing some weather stripping. You do not need to take the stripping off to take the grill off. Keep looking and finger your way around. Use some goggles if you want to look where you put your finger because chances are your stripping is old and crumbling like mine was. After you take off the grill, there are four clips that hold the black insert to the chrome surround...take them off and either mask the chrome strips or you can easily slide them off (...like I did) and paint. I did no primering whatsoever....just painted with a black paint that was more on the flat side rather than glossy.

lots of cars
I would also recommend to lightly sand it with 400 grit and use adheison promoter and high temp duplicolor engine paint. There are some good paints from ACE that have the wide fan tip and it gives a better and even spray pattern. You can use the High temp paint for BBQ grilles. Also first do a light mist over the grill and let it dry for about 10-15min in the sun then one heavy coat and your done.
