Lorinser RS90 Wheels and 400E Brakes
hi guys, i own a w201 and I plan to do a popular 400E brake upgrade for the 190E. ive heard that the stock 15'' wheels don't clear the big 400E brakes, and am wondering if the Lorinser RS 90 wheels will. does anyone here have any experience with these wheels?

1992 Mercedes 400E
No, the RS90's will NOT clear the 400E brakes. I know because I bought a set locally and had to return them to the seller. They clear 300E brakes (which the owner had) but not 400E, neither front nor rear : (

meh, the owner is telling me they should be able to clear 400E brakes:
To my knowledge, yes they do, as these rims are designed for the w124
chassis specifically. Feel free to verify this with the rim specs I
posted in the ad.

i don't know a thing about 400e brakes, but from what I understand, they are bigger (faster car = bigger brakes). To say "they'll fit because they were made for a w124" sounds dumb. the 300, 400, and 500 were all w124 from 86-95, but not everything is interchangeable.

well, i guess its either i find a different set of wheels or find different brake upgrade path. the guy is selling the wheels with two tires for $360 though!

Being that I own a E420 now ...
those 16" wheels won't fit the 400E brakes you're planning to upgrade to in the future. I have 17's right now and the brakes still look huge!

The problem is not at the outer edge - it's on the inside, believe it or not. The area of the wheel which goes flush with the hub of the car (and the 5 bolts go through) makes a gradual drop to the back of the spokes. It's this area that hits the brakes. On the AMG wheels there is no gradual drop; it's a sharp dropoff from the hub area to the back of the 5 spokes.

Turned out the owner was actually a client of mine, so he let me take them home to try but I could not get them to mount. Might have worked with spacers but I didn't want to go there. He eventually sold them to a gentleman in Calgary with a 300E, whom I referred him to. He now owes me a beverage of my choosing : ).
