Auto to Manual conversion, 300CE 104 Engine

Hello All,

I cannot stop imagining my old (290K Kms) 300CE 24 Sportline with a 5 speed (or later 6

speed???) manual box.

I have researched sources for numerous parts, including Mercedes' own "green" recycling plant

in Germany. I'm in France so geography isn't a problem and I'd be happy to drive to collect

good parts.

The big question is:

"What manual clutch/gearbox could be hung off the 104 engine without major cost/surgery?"

I have a very good, local garage where to father/son team love helping me with the car. They

know that my next projects are likely to be ATE/Brembo/Zimmermann discs, then Bilstein B12

suspension kit. But thereafter ...

The manual box is something I cannot stop thinking about.

It must be possible.

I don't think it's likely to be cheap but my view is that this car will be with me forever

and a few thousand Euro is far cheaper than any new or replacement vehicle, especially that

get close to the 124 coupe in terms of style and build quality.

Any ideas/warnings/encouragement/technical input would be very gratefully received.

Thank you in advance.

The green recycling plant is Mercedes-Benz's own vehicle dismantling facility in Germany for their own used and/or overhauled parts network.

Mercedes Recycling

The address for MB's green recycling is:

http://www.mbatc.de/map.htm

Click on:

Teilekatalog Privat

then enter any post code/zip and you should get in and be able to search for parts.

It's all in German at present but they keep promising an English version - still not there.

There are some interesting parts there if you can do a bit of Google German translations.
