I had a flowmaster on my w124 v8, it sounded great, however, flowmasters are hollow metal mufflers that don't absorb resonance or the "bark" very well. Mercedes I6 motors have a inherant bark to them, I had this problem on my 68 280sel that came with some flomaster-like muffler, it sounded awfull. I put a magnaflow on my 68 and my 89TE and they sound amazing since the magnaflows have a special high temp padding inside to soak up the bark. Go with Magnaflow

If you want it to sound real nice, have the muffler shop remove the center muffler behind the Cats, it is not too loud that you get sick of it, since mercedes have so much sound deadening material

What model did you get and do you have any pictures?

I just checked out the website they have a red gti that sounded absolutely heavenly.

Well for my 68 I got a x-flow dual in dual out 2inch model, don't know the name, and for my TE I have a different muffler style than the sedans and wagons. I had the shop order a 2.25(I believe) Camarro/firebird muffler since it is similar to the TE muffler in that it has an inlet and outlet on the same end, but this one has another outlet on the opposite side SO i now have dual exhaust on my TE. Catback, no center muffler, the shop did a great job, looks factory painted black no tips for me.

The sedans and coupes have twin downpipes from the exhaust manifolds that go into two cats and then after the cats there is a center muffler that converts two into one and the rear muffler has a single inlet and dual outlet. So I would just go to a local muffler shop that does hotrods and what not and have them recommend what model to get. They will have to make a y-pipe behind the cats to go into one and then into your rear muffler that you choose.

What about Remus and Eisenmann ? Dont too many people use them on their W124's? I heard the Remus universals aren't that great, compared to the them the Magnaflow's are better. At the same time the high end Remus ones are really spectacular.
I really wanted to get a Remus and then found Eisenmann, but havent seen or heard any w124 with an Eisenmann so yeah. They come with a hefty price tag too. It was around 800 couple of months back, now its 1200 !!

Im just really confused as to what to get for my car. Any advice ?

Fezz,

I was on the same boat as you - I would just go with the magnaflow route. For around 300-400 ... you can have a shop build you a complete exhaust system. Magnaflow cats, piping, muffer and the tip of your choice.

Last time I checked - which wasn't too long ago - A Eisenmann Race exhaust was going to set me back $630.

I got a cheapo imitation remus looking straight through muffler off ebay for like $30. I had it put on and it made a little power increase but almost no sound increase. Save your money and have the center muffler removed. Just don't make it sound like a rice rocket.

Rice Rocket...haha, plenty of them around everywhere eh? I just want something sounding really heavy and mean. Yeah its not a V8, but still something really heavy would sound nice.

I checked out the Magnaflow's and they are very affordable, I guess thats what I will be installing as soon my semester gets done.

Maybe an Eisenmann on the 500E I plan to buy someday...lol !!

Dual Exhaust

My center muffler is shot so I was thinking of:
Removing center muffler and everything behind it.
Running two pipes to the back with a high flow muffler at the back on each pipe.

True dual exhaust all the way.
Anybody tried this?
Any reason it wouldn't work?
Any reason it wouldn't be cool?

Thanks

I was looking under my 300E, I cant get it done, because the fuel tank is blocking the way !!

I don't know how the TE's look like underneath, but if you have room, give'er a try !!
