92 300te rpms go up, stuck throttle?

I have a 92 300TE, and the car sat for a month, now I went to start it, stareted up, idled at 500rpms as always.. When I got in it to drive it, I noticed the car was pulling, then I shifted into neutral, the RPMs went up to 2400, I drove it back to my house, and when i put it back in neutral, the RPMS flew up so I reached for the key and killed it before it redlined.

What could be causing this?

Thanks

I'd make sure your gas pedal is free... sometimes carpet can get bunched up benind it, also, check the throttle linkages to make sure they haven't gotten sticky, they should be lubricated.

That should be your culprit.

I almost killed myself when this happened to me (thank God for good brakes), I made it home, luckily not even a mile away, and sprayed some WD-40 over the throttle linkage.

Test drove it around the block and it was good as new.

just kidding.

My votes on the stuck linkage. Use ATF to lube it, not WD-40. WD-40 is a solvent, BTW, not a lubricant.

OK, WD-40 has some minor lubrication qualities, but haven't you wondered why it doesn't say "lubricant" on the can? You could probably use it as an alternative to pepper spray, or use the can as a door stop, but why not use something MADE for those things? If you want to lubricate something, get teflon spray. If something is stuck or if you get water in your distributor cap, use WD-40. And to lube your throttle linkage:
