................holy sh**
I have found a 500E at the dealer wher i live, and correct me if im wrong but all the research i have found has said that the 4 and the 5 have identical body brackets etc.
so now im on a quest to find 500E parts or identical for my 400E
(springs etc.)
can anybody give me a tip as to where i could find a place to get these parts, U.S. please

what are body brackets?
I'm not really sure what parts you're looking for, but the 500E has something like 4000 parts that are not found on the other w124s.

What are you trying to do? Convert the body to the wide look of the 500? The chassis are essentialy the same and you can carry parts over.
The Sportline E420/400E had the same suspension/swaybar kit as the 500.

i could be wrong, but i think the 500 has a different front and rear track than other 124s. i DO know that its lower than other 124s. but i suppose that could be down to spring pads.

for starters "body brackets" are essentially the screw holes that the fender etc. mounts to the chasis
the reason it is lower is it has a Porsche "tuned" suspension system exclusive for the 5 so it does ride lower
what im trying to do is find someone who sells replacement not salvage 500E parts so i can carry them over to my 4E

I saw a 400E that had been converted to the 500E and it is a joke. Don't try converting anything, it's not worth the effort. It's more than hoses and brackets, it's sheet metal changes too, and a number of them at that.

Albert (socalcarbon.com) did this to his car. My understanding based on what he as said in the past is that the front fenders will bolt on just fine, but you need to purchase new lower body cladding that runs along the bottom quarter-panels on the doors.
The rear, however, is not bolt-on. You have to cut into the existing sheet metal, cut out some welds, and weld the modified 500e panels in. The rear fenders are not separate pieces like the fronts are. Most people who have looked into doing this conversion usually just end up selling their car and buying a 500. Believe it or not, it's probably much much cheaper to buy a new one.
Obviously I don't have any personal experience with this. This is just what I've heard when this topic has come up in the past.

yeah, i think it's a 400 or an e420. He did the 500 conversion, then eventually got the itch to make his car even wider with his current project. At least that's what I've pieced together.

ok, well if anybody can point me in the direction of a fairly "clean" body-kit,performance parts or just shtuff 4E, let me know, I'm in central north america so I'm a long time away from any good shops that work on european cars and even fewer are there people that actually appreciate the art of the the pointed star
