, since I travel to Italia (for family visits) often, I get the chance to rent/see all the nice cars that are not loaded up with options...its great to have the CHOICE of cloth seats, manual A/C, no sunroof, 1.4,1.6,1.7,1.8,2.0.ect,ect,ect engines, auto or manual, asr-no asr, you get the idea....in the early 90's, i came across a BMW catalog...power windows? just the fronts or all 4?, power seat, drivers or both/with or without memory?, cig lighter?, 8 color interiors in cloth, 5 in vinyl, 4 in leather....dont want cruise?- no prob... jeez
so many choices....I like to rent from SIXT because they have a great selection of MB's and have a all-in-one price including VAT, full insuance, airport taxes, ect....(holiday cars) and they will usually upgrade a cars if they have one that has been sitting awhile, got a E320 CDI 5speed for the A-classe 170CDI price....anyway, enjoyed the photo tour---
Do you in your country get a problem like we in Russia get, alot of used W210 220D coming in to the country are german taxies, usually repainted to cover it up? Do you have the VIN number, to check that?
Mine is not a former taxi, it has 208,000 certified km's. There's this annual registration when the car is inspected and certified for minimal road safety. Furthermore a taxi would have run about 500.000km's by now, they all have a manual transmission, vinyl interior, 'classic' trim with steel rims and plastic wheelcovers, and you would find holes drilled into the dashboard and fender(s) where the taximetre and extra antenna's would have been...
How much actual savings do expect to get once you factor in the added cost of the newer car [differential in 210-124] and any additional insurance and taxes that I would assume a newer/more expensive car would incur?
Reason for my question. At one point I looked at trading in my wife's commuter [124 Sportline] for a 300D [W210] but after calculating the cost of the trade for the newer car [a 1992 to a 1997], higher insurance and higher property taxes I found that she would have to drive 45000 miles a year for 4.5 years to break even over just paying for extra gas for the W124 [300E 3.0]. There would be no "savings" until 180,000 miles of driving.

but i'm curious how did the a/c panel looks like in your TE?
do you have the 'turning knobs' type or the 'digital' (is it?
) type like in the US?do you know what i'm talking about?
sorry if this is a silly question
btw, your TE is the best
but good luck with the new car
and don't forget to keep hanging with us here
Not great but I still think the overall cost of ownership is not bad for its size and utility.
$2.35 a gallon; shut up and enjoy it.
