my guess is that anyone that is going 300+ on one tank has a 2.8, not a 3.0.

we get a little less oomph and a lot more mileage.

cruising steady 65mph gets me 25mpg giving me a little over 400 miles to the tank. I have an early 3.0, early cars are lighter and some really steady cruising.

My 1992 400E gets 20 - 22mpg consistently in town. I drive very fast, accelerate quickly, etc... I was shocked to get that mileage.

My orange "low Fuel" light comes on at about 280 - 295 miles.

Chris - San Antonio - $2.15 p/gallon - Costco / high dollar Chevron down the street - high octane - $2.35 p/gal

DO YOU GUYS RECOMEND A FUEL INJECTION CLEANER ADDITITIVE TO THE FULE?

yeah, 93 octane runs around $2.35 in Houston, too.

The price is so low because we don't have all of the socialist state taxes that you have out in CA.

Mercedes benz 1991 300ce(RIP), now an 89 300ce
i can pull 330 on a tank in the city....on the highway if im hitting 75 mph i can get closer to 400 to 450.

p.s. i should mention i only get 330 in the city if i am goin really really easy on the gas...like traffic starts to back up behind me as i accelerate from a stop

you guys do realise that there is a lot of factors that go into fuel economy right? heres what gets me 25mpg on the freeway in my 2.6

slightly bigger tires. check
higher rear end ratio. uncheck. (2.6s, coupes and wagons have a slightly higher rear end than regular 3.0s which in turn have a higher one than the standard (2.24 is it?) thats in the 400Es. this lower the number the better the fuel economy. the higher the number the better the acceleration but lower top speed. i think 3.0s have a 3.07, coupes, wagons and 2.6s have a 3.27 and 500Es have a 2.82)
weight. less options early cars would be best. less junk in the trunk
state of tune
quality of fuel (this on is debatable)
what type of roads you drive on (hills and canyons vs freeways.)
keeping windows and sunroof closed and not using AC

but most importantly, the nut behind the wheel and how hard he pushes down on his right foot.

Range Rover Classic
Its a shame that Mercedes was only using a 4 speed gearbox (a 5 did/does exist) as another overdrive gear would help a great deal with the mileage.

Eliot, you're assuming the the final drive ratio (engine-to-wheels) is different between the two gearboxes. That is not always the case.
