This doesnt make a difference, But, I can tell the difference from a 1/4 mile away. However, MOST people cant tell, your right.
Just remember, with wheels especially, you really get what you pay for. Those wheels pictured will shake @ about 65 MPH on the freeway. I know because I sell them sometimes to people like yourself, who are adamant about getting the Brabus "Look". They then come back a few days later, and complain about how bad they shake, then they end up buying better ones, and end up with a useless set of Brabus Look wheels, and paying double. For the same money, you can get a much better quality wheel for your car. Feel free to stop by my shop anytime, Ill be glad to help you out.
Not talking ****, just take it from the guy who sells wheels and tires everyday.
I guess when I weighed in on this debate (this thread meandered so much that I can't remember if it was in this thread or not), I failed to mention one thing...
I bought my AMG monoblock replicas on ebay. Fantastic price. The finish is chipping on one of the wheels 2 years later. And the ebay seller said the tires were mounted and balanced. They obviously were not properly balanced and I had to take them to a shop to get it done. Apparently the weights were just slapped on them arbitrarily. And I'm not sure if it's my tires or the rims, but the shop said it was impossible to get them to balance properly without sticking the weights on the outside lip of the wheel. I know that you definitely wouldn't have to do that on authentic AMG's. But they got them darn close and it's smooth at speeds below 75. I hardly ever drive faster than that.
So, that's my wordy rebuttal to myself. Replicas are not as good as the real thing, but in my situation, even knowing what I know now, the huge cost savings were completely worth it to me. I got wheels and tires, delivered, for around $1,500 less than the real deal. That money went into my head gasket/valve job/etc.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Scene one:
Fade in.
Our fearless sword fighter is exhausted, bloodied and overall in a desperate circumstance. With a cuban accent (but speaking French), Bozzo is attempting to assure himself.
Bozzo:
(mumbling)
"I’ve stood my ground. My head is held high. People see I am right, as usual! These dorks don’t know a replica wheel from their ****! Regardless, I place my faith in my own knowledge, talent and fortitude that I am here bestowing my omnipotent knowledge of all things alloy."
Moves over to a lowered 4-door Mercedes-Benz.
Bozzo:
(kneeling by the front wheel of a re-badged W124)
“You, my precious, have been my partner, friend and confidant. Only you know where I’ve been…the pain I’ve endured….the mistakes I’ve made. Woe is me….CONFOUNDED OFFSETS!”
Suddenly, a visitor approaches…holding a large box and evidently laboring under the weight of carrying such a mass. The man is young…just 17…but very handsome Bozzo thinks.
Bozzo:
(addressing the new kid)
“Sup n00b? I highly suggest you address me with proper grammar!”
Art G.:
(ready to drop the heavy box)
“Mr. Bozzo? I need your help! I’ve got these wheels here, but have some questions about whether I got a good deal or even if they’ll fit! Could you….WOULD you, help me?”
Bozzo:
(obviously annoyed at the intrusion, quips back this time in his best East Indian accent)
“Boy! Drop that Replica! I’m allergic to inferior quality look-alikes. I DEMAND you remove that sub-par specimen from my presence, AT ONCE! You Americans are all the same….FTW!”
(Bozzo rolls his eyes at Art G.)
Art G:
(sheepishly lays down the box, and closes the lid)
“I am sorry. You see, I got these ‘Borinser’ wheels at a great price and wanted your advice.”
………….to be continued…….
