Just wondering and would think that it would be a source of very valuable information for the readers of this forum section...

anyone have any leads or links?

if anything, an engine rebuild DIY would be most helpful...
part numbers for items needing replacement and what not... I am NOT going to take it to some stealership so they can molest my already thin wallet.

I found a lot of good DIY stuff on mercedesshop

I come to MBWorld 'cause these guys know best how a 124 should look and you can buy/sell stuff right in the 124 forum. Other forums (there's only about 500 of them) have more DIY stuff.

Of course, I may change my opinion if somebody on here tells me how to remove and reinstall my drivers side kick panel.

I presume the kick panel is the back of the seat.
First remove the two screws at the bottom of the panel.
Then compress the seat bolster to ease the load on the leather side piece. This will make prying it off the seat back easier. The side piece needs to be eased backwards and off the seat back. Hopefully these pictures will make it easier to understand how it's held together.
