That's even better! I'd still love to see photos. I believe it's only mod-free if you have a 124.034/.036 though, since those models have the R129 knuckles.

hey chris, I saw this car in person. This guy has a mercedes repair shop in redondo beach and the car is a grey market e220 i think. You can go and ask him what he did to it and look at his brake set up. He has a turbo in it too by the way..

Yup!

I believe those brakes will work but clearance issues with wheels and the fender will probably come into play.

You'll basically might need to shave the steering knuckle a little bit and then cut the protector plate a little bit. Also, some brake line adapters would be best.

Why not use something that is a 100% bolt-on with no mods, like the 300mm calipers from a mid-90's SL320/SL500? Those are plenty big for the horsepower level of a non-turbo 300E...

Well I live in california...so you know...crossdrilled rotors and nice calipers are just for show......plus i got them cheap.....I know what you mean, but i dunno it's gonna make my new wheels look nicer...

I have a 69 mustang too by the way and that's where i put all go and no show...

Yes, these are centric rotors...

I'll get pics of the calipers when they get here...

I think those are something like 310mm x 28mm. Unless you're getting them near free, the R129 setup with 300x28 would be a lot less work, with equal performance. You can get drilled rotors for the R129 setup as well.

I'm just tired of looking for the r129 calipers and my local junk yard wants $150 just for them but i got a steal on ebay for both rotors and calipers so i don't mind doing the extra work....

Maybe I will go with something like this in the rear...

$150 for a pair of good fronts ain't bad. I don't know the dimensions of the W211 rotors, but if the distance from the back side of the rotor to the rear face of the hub is more than 38-40mm, you're going to have clearance problems with the lower control arm in the ball joint area. If you have the rotors already, I'd measure that pronto. Cheap brakes are gonna get real expensive if you need R129 knuckles or late-style LCA's to make them fit.

Those are 300x22mm, and will work fine, but you'll have to cut the rear dust shield for clearance (basically, chop it off). They'd be a better match to 320mm fronts from an SL600 though (which won't fit your car without the R129 knuckles or late LCA's.)

You may end up with increased pedal effort and/or pedal travel with any brake upgrade... if so, you'll need to swap to the 400E/500E dual-diaphragm brake booster with larger master cylinder to cure the pedal feel.

Yeah, I am aware of all the work to install larger rotors. I should have mentioned that they are just stock size cross drilled and slotted rotors. I wanted to get some calipers to fit and look good. I bought like 5 pairs of these rotors for different cars and was able to get a pair for mine. I got each set for $50 from a company in temecula, ca that was going out of business. I got the calipers on ebay for like $60 plus $25 for shipping.

I was going to buy these from a 2006 E500 but I already had them so i didn't think to bid on another set...they got a good price too...

Nothing is set in stone when it comes to my car. I have a storage room full of extra parts that sometimes i buy and end up selling after i change my mind. Thanks for all the info about the R129 rotors and calipers.

Ah, now I get it - those do look nicer than the R129 calipers. Could you measure those rotors though? I'm really curious what the distance is. Look at this photo - see the 44.1mm dimension, from the rear friction surface to the rear of the hub? I'd need to know what that distance is for the W211 rotor.

I'll find out what size they are but i compared them to my stock rotors and they are the same....

This is the look i'm going for with a different wheel set up. I can't afford those brakes either but i already have the smoke tails and the black powdercoated wheels. I'm also going to do a HID set up in the front and the side panels with a 400e rear bumper. I'm still working on the front bumper and maybe some fender flares.

I would love to do these conversions too but it's too much $$$

OMG! that black E500 looks amazing with color matched wheels and yellow calipers.

I think it's a sign that I should go for that look.

I'm still thinking about what next brake swap I want to do since a fellow forum member here will be buying my 4-Piston C32/55 AMG brakes. I'm thinking I want to go with 6-Piston 030 AMGs all around but $3k brand new set up all around is not making it a for sure thing.

That black .036 looks HOT. Wow.

Chris, I assume you know that further brake upgrades for your car would be mostly for looks (and would look great, btw). Your current setup is plenty of stopping power for street use. If you don't take the car to the track, you could keep some more normal-sized brakes (R129 or AMG), and put the $3k into other goodies. Either the 334mm or 345mm fronts, with 300mm rears, would be fine. I'm working on a possible source for custom 2-piece lightweight rotors for the R129/Brembo 334mm fronts, but probably won't have more details for a few months.

Yeah, more than half of the reason I want to upgrade to the 6-piston is due to looks. Call it selfish but it's something I want to tackle down the line then I'll be completely satisfied. I just hate seeing how I have big brakes in the front and such small ones in the rear.

Anyways, I'm looking for lightweight rotors as well 345MM. Stock rotors are soooooo heavy.

Let me know how the custom rotor goes for you Dave.

If you're familiar with EvoSport - I'd like rotors similiar to the ones they offer for the E55. (weight wise)
