is your car lowered? If it is, it limits the width of the rear tires you can go with - unless you have the fenders rolled...
I had 245/40 section rear tires with no rubbing on my coupe - but I did have the fenders rolled.

Its at stock ride height to deal with a VERY steep driveway. Fender lips are not rolled but I think I'll stick to the same front & rear wheel/tire combo to keep the tires tucked into the fenders a bit. That helps keep the schmutz off the rocker panels in our inclement weather here in PDX.

Both worked fine...but as Zedstyle had pointed out my rolling circumference was off a bit with 215.
By the way guys, I autocrossed my W124 at a PCA autocross event where we are supposed to bring our non-Porsche cars. It did fantastic and handled well. No rubbing under lots of full suspension compression....this is the main reason I down sized the rubber. It may be only 10mm wider BUT the much stiffer and shorter sidewall sharpens the handling infinitely. I was able to bring the tail out nicely in controlled drifts around the cones. I have Bilstein SPORT shocks and HR springs.
