The show I saw on tv talked about specialty paints that were being developed to mimic the matte finish in nature that repels better than shiny surfaces. I would think that a typical matte finish found in regular semi-gloss would be harder to keep clean since the surface molecules are not alligned in a specific way like they are in natural materials. think of an old pick up with a bad paintjob, I know that if it sits too long it will develop mildew or algae in W.WA, but a gloss paint will have to fade first to start that.

I'm doing a matte finish on half my 69 mustang and for that look you just need to clear the base with a flat or satin clear. I'm going with sating because i don't like the ashy look also i'm trying to go for a Trans Am look. My benz is half matte because i haven't painted it yet and the front has a satin look to it. It look ghetto for now but i drive alot and my paint gets pretty f$%#cked up all the time so i'm not too worried about it.

FYI duplicolor has some nice paints if you wanna try the rattle can spray type of paint job.
