Governor Speed Limitation?

Anyone know at what speed the governor kicks in? I was out on the expressway today and well everyone was doing 80-90 like usual and without noticing I was doing about 100MPH. Clear day, pretty clear lanes I decided to see what my baby could do . Got her up to 134MPH easily and she wanted to keep going but I got a little worried about going over the speed limit just by a few miles per hour so I slowed back down . Have any of you ever seen or heard of a W124 actually going 160 or more ? What are these cars capable of? Was pretty nice being in a 18 year old car and zooming by gutless new cars, hehe.

In America I believe it's about 135 MPH for the E260-320.

The published top speed is 138 mph. ive only hit like 120 though, but never pushed my engine hard. but it cut my trip time from atlanta to richmond by more than 2 hours. I sat at over 110 for most of the way. Dangerous, I know, but it was the most enjoyable driving experience I've ever had. And i got surprisingly comparable gas mileage (400 miles at over 100 mph the entire way)

haha, try that on the perimeter The HOV has been taken over by slow turds. I was actually doing better in the far right lane on 85 instead of using the HOV. Go figure

dude once you're on 85 past where 316 branches off and you aren't in rush hour traffic you're golden all the way up to the VA border where the cops because complete *******s. You can lose your license in VA for being 15 over!!! In the Atl its like 28. Huuge difference.

I have touched 220kmph on my 1988 300E. I dont think there is a governor in mine. The speedo ends at 240...so yeah !!

Strangely, its not fun driving at those speeds. Anything can happen and you will be just another bump on the road people will wonder what it was when it was alive when driving over it!!

there was no governor on 4, 5, and 6 cylinder engines until (i think) 1993.

i had mine essentially maxed out at about mid 130s on a long long road at about 1 am in the middle of nowhere. still had rpms but it wouldnt accelerate any more. at least it didnt appear to.

but mines a wee 2.6

Ouch. I always drive 15 over, and I still get passed like a sitting duck...
