Question General Speaker Question

Alright, I've been searching the forum for like an hour, and I'm frankly tired of it, plus I have exams this week.

From what I can find, the rear speakers are 5 1/8 inch, but a 5 1/4 inch can be fitted with a bit of work, and the fronts are like 4 1/8 inches, but a 4 inch speaker can be fitted pretty easily if the original mounting frame is used.

My question is, how important is the mounting depth for each of these speakers? Do I need to find "slim" speakers? Or will standard mounting depth speakers be fine? Any other hints for installing new speakers? If I have an Alpine head unit, will I need another amp to push standard aftermarket speakers?

Thanks errbody.

alrighty. first off, i got 5.25 inch speakers to fit in the dash. took a little bit of cutting but they fit fine. 5.25 speakers belong in the rear also. mounting depth in the front is pretty short, so slim speakers are a good idea. i dont know the maximum depth, but my speakers were 2 inches deep and fit pretty close. your HU should push your new speakers no problem, but amping them would make them sound much better. Lastly, i recommend coaxials by "CDT audio". They also make a fantastic slim mount, which I used in my last install.

make sure that the tweeter on the speaker doesn't stick up too high on the fronts. Else the speaker grill wont fit over it.

This thread answers the exact question I'm after! (i.e. the mounting depth of the front speakers).

Are there any recommendations as to whether to go with components or coaxials?

what type of alpine speakers (or other similar quality companies) have people mounted? I'm looking for something I can afford with my summer job. I can't do MB Quarts and such. 300 bucks for speakers isn't in the budget curently.
