Considering my car is black, i use a black zip tie that runs through the mesh and loops around it.

You could use a copper or similiar wire, or you could remove it all together.

There have been a couple times before i got the zip tie that the wire slipped back into the grill and i had to bend the assembly a little to fit my hand in there and jimmy it open, but it wasnt too bad.
