Body Side cladding??
Body Side cladding??
Guys, I just purchased an 89 W124 Mint condition, however it doesnt have the body side cladding that I see on alot of the 124's I see here. It just has standard door moulding.
I prefer the cladding look, is there any where I can get a kit? or that cladding and retro-fit it on the older 89??

Cladding was a later feature. You could add it if you wanted to but that would however be expensive. The most economical option would be a junkyard. The mounting clips should be purchased new.
I got an '85 and just like probably what you have & like you I prefer the cladding look. Got my set from the yard and its easy to install w/ the clips & screws. That should be 10pcs. all in all for both left & right & make sure you get the square cover for the running board (jack hole cover). The front bumper is another story

Thanks Diesel! I have my cars photo album at:

Thanks papromike! Its an after market grille design taken from S600 (W140) & from Avantgarde W210. I believe you can easily find one at ebay:

A friend owns' a 124 with a factory installed fender light so I just removed it & made a template from it.
Thanks xudek! I'm from Manila, Philippines & a friend based in Hong Kong visits the yards there often when he found this AMG bumper & sent it over. Although the bumper assy was relatively cheap (around US$350) one of the driving lamps was cracked & when I ordered one piece it costed alomost US$200 in euros!
Hi berti_00 got your PM, IMHO, I think US$200 is very reasonable for all 10pcs. Installation is easy since the holes where the original rubber mouldings are attached to are the same holes you'll need for the clips of the cladding. If you can invest on new clips the better.
There is also one thing I forgot to mention, since the claddings has chrome strip you might want to get the chrome strip from the front & rear bumper if possible. In my case, since it is very expensive in this part of the globe for the bumper chrome strips, I just decided to remove the strips form the cladding for consistency. I got this idea from the 124 CE before the 90's upgrade where they have claddings but w/o chrome strips. Also from the 90's W201 w/ claddings w/o the chrome strips.
The car is an '85 230E M/T which make me think is a taxi version in Europe since the only "power" feature it has is the steering . . . . . slowly & with a lot of patience, I was able to get power windows, used electric power door locks instead of those costly vacumm type elements, installed rear headrest assy complete w/ brackets et al, headlamp wipers, and the H&R springs & Bilstein short stroke combo. Painted the window pillars black & body color for those faded door handles.
Thanks for all your comments, I really do appreciate it! Makes all the effort worth it

lol @ people that always suggest a hood mod. The older style is 10X more aggressive/masculine.
The only thing that I don't like is the black impact strips and the black c-pillars/window frames.

I, among MANY others here think the Gen 2 kit works fine, if not better with the old grille and headlights than with the new, softer, bland, less distinct and aggressive grille and headlight combo you have.
As for the "designed for the facelift cars" well actually it was designed for the C36 as well, so...
It IS a matter of taste....
my language
"The only thing that sticks out to me is the hood. have you considered the face lift version?"
"The face lift hood makes more sense with the second generation AMG Spoiler."
"This is taste (and I'd say that I'd prefer the Hammer kit on your car) so rather pointless. But the Second Gen kit was designed for the facelift cars."
I would hesitate to say that I have poured fire down anyones throat but If I have offended you then I apologize.

LOL, I don't get offended that easily...your statements simply suggested you felt your opinion was "correct"
Whatever....we are all free to like what we like, right?
No harm done

What about the rocker panel underneath the door cladding, is that the original another piece or a cover from the yard?
random quote...
anyways...where did you buy the material for your grill insert Zorro?
Ive been meaning to *** you for a while. The home-depot chicken-wire stucco holding flimsy *** metal ive had in there looks so damn cheap.
Yes I did considered going for the face lift but considering the cost of upgrade & also the fact that when I got the car the headlamps were newly replaced by the previous owner I just decided to stick it out w/ what I have. I did some computations with all the upgarde I made (plus if I upgrade the hood / headlamps / trunk / rear bumper) it would sum up as if I bought another 124.
Question: When using a mesh grille, where would the hood-handle opener go when you pop up the hood from the inside? Or you just take it out all together?
