normally excesive play in the steering is a result of wear and tear of the components part of the whole steering assembly, not only the power steering gearbox. As far as I know there is not adjustment possible, other than replacíng the worn out parts, also outside the gearbox.

I have the same problem and the only real solution is to replace the steering gearbox itself. All other steering components were checked and were ok. I'm actually trying to find a steering box for my vehicle.

hi - if you are driving along....and you try to slightly..not voliently..attempt to play with the steering wheeling by slightly turning left and right and left.......and the car has no response......this is probably the steering box problem......
as far as i know...you can make a small adjustments on the steering box...but this is only a tempoarily because in the near future...the problem comes back.......but the best solution is to replace the steering box...this may require a bit of work....but it is worth it in the end.

Check your idler arm bushings, tie-rod ends, center drag link, and steering damper. Excessive play in these bushings can really loosen up the feel of the wheel. The steering box itself only has adjustment for steering sensitivity via a hex screw that is locked by a hex nut, this will not fix "play" in the system.
