1995 E420 - Need to turn on the OEM Amplifier due to replaced radio
I have a 1995 E420 and the radio is busted! I replaced the original radio with an Alpine head unit but the problem is that the speakers are connected to the OEM Amplifier. In order for me to make the speakers work without re-wiring, I have to turn on the OEM amplifier using 5 volts but the Alpine head unit does not have 5 volts on any wires (even the remote wire has 12 volts). Now I am looking for a DC to DC 12 volts to 5 volts car converter which I can't find anywhere. Does anyone had this experience? I am driving my car without a radio because I can't find this converter/regulator. Please help me!!!!

My understanding is that the factory Becker 1492 has an internal amp section to drive the dash and rear shelf speakers, and the amp in the trunk drives the door mid bass speakers. So with your replacement radio, you should at least have sound out of the dash and shelf speakers.
This link may help you, but beware that people posted in it about both the 1492 Becker and the 1432 model:
