4800rpm max on 300e help please.....
Just got the car the other day in america and the the car cuts out at 4800 rpm and I know these engines love to rev higher.I just replaced the spark leads and sorted out a few other problems however it feals like the rev limiter is cutting in at 4800 . Does anyone have any sugestions ?

If the latter then not to worry, take it on the road and accelerate in first gear and you should see 6200+ RPM.
If it's the former then what engine/injection do you have?

It is the later, it is a 86 300e with the mechanical injection.. Feals like a rev limiter to me.. Engine runs very smooth except for this rev limiter ...

After doing some research on here I have finally come down to the conclusion that the reason my car is limiting itself at 4800rpm is due to the fact that someone before has put the wrong fuel pump relay in I believe. The one i have in at the moment is for the 4 cylinder, is there anyway of modifieing this one ?

I read about a condition where this rev limiter kicks in early but I forgot what it was. Anyone else remember? Tranny in reverse?
