300E Instrument Cluster/Odometer/Speedo Removal

I've got a 88 300E and the Odometer just stopped working.

I've managed to get the instrument cluster out of the car, and the speedo cluster out of the instrument cluster.

But I cannot for the life of me get the face off the speedo cluster.
There are two screws on either side of the speedo needle that I have taken out and the face becomes loose, but I cannot get the speedo needle off.(didn't want to force it and have it break)

I want to get it apart so that I can see what I need to fix the odometer.

Any suggestions?

The needle will come off with some very gentle prying from behind it to loosen it up.
You might try using small plastic fork underneath the needle to apply even force as you're trying to lift up.

There's a company that sell the plastic gears if yours are stripped, I don't recall the site but you can Google it.

the method to remove the needle is to use two spoons on either side. The challenge is to replace it accurately or the calibration will be off (this is where the speedo shops earn their money)
