91 300E oil leak

I just bought this 91 300E and it has an oil leak coming from the front just under the distributor. It seems to leak after you turn it off.

a few culprits: check the valve cover gasket to make sure that it is soft(they are cheap and worth replacing), there is a gasket between the front plate and the camshaft that coudl be bad, it is where the distributor cap mounts to.

That is the classical upper timing cover leak. It is on the passenger side.

It actually leaks worse when running, just you do not see it.

There are some procedures on the Internet.

Quite a few things have to be removed in order to get to the cover. Then it is a bit tricky to put it together because part of the cover uses no robber seal, only sealer.

If it is only the upper cover leak (not head gasket), then it is kind of harmless if you can tolerate the leak.
