( Of course I'm biased after owning one from new in 1988 )
The early cars are less complex, easier to maintain by yourself, minimal electronics and a bullet proof engine.
Surprisingly the M103-12V does not give much up on the low end to the M104-24V because of it's torque band and gearing.
I currently drive a 1986 4Dr 300E and it's been a great car. Unfortunately I'm moving and it would cost too much to ship the car. I would definitely consider a older 88-89 300CE depending on it's condition.
I want the 94/95 years because of the added power and updated facelift. If I'm not mistaken, it also has better gas mileage.

Well-kept examples still bring good money - even with mileage.

keep looking for Sportline you wont believe the difference it makes over standard mb driving

Chappy - Yes these cars are holding their value. They're BEAUTIFUL and timeless (IMO of course). I've always wanted one.
CoastLine - Just checked the Seattle classifieds after reading your post...nada. Which Oregon newspaper do you suggest. I did a google search and it appears Oregon has a lot of newspapers companies. I'll be in Yakima, Washington if that little bit of information helps.
If I can't find a nice W124 coupe, I'll look for a 96 W210 or just get a Honda/Toyota for now (then just give that to my wife...hehehe). I will need to buy something on September 12, 2007 when I move to Washington (I refuse to take the bus).

The M104 is definitely smoother than the M103 and has more torque lower down the range. I see people issuing cautions about the five-speed (partially electronic) autobox of the later model, but so far so good with my Coupé.
Sure as eggs, both the M103 and M104 will leak -- head gasket rear RH corner looking forwards, plus timing chain cover -- but many manage to live with such leaks for years. The Coupé rear window will delaminate; I wonder if anyone can report one that hasn't. There's the wiring-harness degradation as well, which affects several models from 1991 to 1996; no sign of it in my Coupé yet.
Yes, the Sportline suspension is good. Interesting contrast between the first generation on my turbo and the second generation on the Coupé: very firm indeed on the former and distinctly softer but still firm on the latter (firm enough to surprise passengers who imagine that all MBs have a soft ride). I've seen a report that MB changed it because the first generation was too firm for most customers.
I get over 22 miles per US gallon.
Great cars, their weaknesses notwithstanding. I knew I would never want to sell mine.

Color "Desert Taupe" ( 441) metallic or "Pueblo Beige" ( 651) non metallic?????

Coupes are beginning to appreciate in the USA....can't touch one in decent condition in the U.K. for almost twice that amount.
They will become a strong collectible as the C124 was one of the classic desigend Merc coupes !!

Damn....that car is very tempting. I'm not totally sold on the color. But the car looks amazing!
A good paint job would cost $2000 - $3000...that's what's holding me back.

I'm not too happy with the exterior being gray, but it's pretty close to black so I may just go for this one. As long as it passes a PPI and I can get financed, I'm going to pick it up next week.

Anyway...I decided to avoid that shady dealer. Unfortunately I had to get a car by Monday so I bought a 98' Honda Accord. I'll give that to my wife when I find what I'm looking for.
