Well ! I have been running 87 octane in BigBlue since the first day I owned it , 3yrs now. She has been running like a clock from day one!! When after a year I told orig owner I had been running regular gas he was pissed that he had been poring premium gas into it..

FYI at least here in California, gas is all the same at independents and the big names...there are only a handful of refineries and the only difference between them is the upselling to the additives they market them with..ie Shell power..Techroline...etc. I put the least expensive gas in my car that doesn't cause it to ping or knock on hot days, and then add my own additives every 4-5k miles to keep injectors clean without paying the premium for their retail products at the pump. Costco has 4 pack of Techroline for under 10.00 and thats good for 1 year of driving @ every 4-5k as recommended. Why waste your money unless you feel good knowing the big oil companies are soaking you for their marketing slogans.

i didnt know there was such thing as regular or midgrade gasoline for these cars. mercedes puts premium gas only on my gauges, gas cap and about twenty times in the owners manual i think if they had the chance they would ingrave it in your skin.

Available here is 87-89-93. My question is will the engine design take advantage of the higher octane (93 over 91)? Or does the spark advance curve flatline over 91 octane?
