2PHAST, V8 in W124?

Hi 2PHAST & guys,

Just wondering if any of you have successfully swapped any V8 into a W124 before? ( without altering the engine bay )

I did 2 of 2PHAST mini projects before, euro lights & 400E brake conversion, now i have a big warehouse with a engine hoist!

I know the usual answer is to sell the M103 car and get another W124 with a
V8, I am just wondering

Thanks

you have to alter the engine bay, you need to alter the firewall, put in a new crossmember, etc. etc. it's in no way a direct swap, and pointless for sedans where at this point you can buy a low mileage v8 w124 for cheap. i can see in a cab or coupe that never came with the v8, but even then...

For the cost of the swap in a sedan, you could purchase an appreciating asset like a 500E

I agree, either live with the M103 or get a E420/E500. A easier swap would be a M104 to replace your M103, if you get a M104 from a 300SL for example, you would be looking at 228 hp vs. the M103's of 178, thats a 50 hp increase.

Yes, 217 for the E320, 228 for the 300SL, 10 hp more. I also believe the 300se has 228 hp.

I saw a picture with an older V8 in a W124, I think is a Hammer, just wondering if they shoehorned that engine in ?

LOL shoehorned isn't even 0.01% of what they did to the hammer to make it the car it was...

V8 + W124 = just buy a 400E420 or a 500E500.

My baseline dyno ( Mustang load) prior to twin turbo install on a 63K mile M103-12V was 135HP / 145 LBFT torque which was 30% drive train loss from published power numbers.

Your burn out in 1, 2 and part of 3 is a bit of

I'm running low to mid five second 0-60 times after the TT install and the best I can do is chirp on the 1-2 shift.

meh i don't know much about the motor. all i know is it is fast and thats all that matters that and it still runs good. the other day i hit the gas and the tires spun for 3 seconds then did it again in 2end and 3rd. no more than a few seconds in each gear i don't mean one burn out in all 3 gears i was short on time when posted that i needed to head back to class.

WOW...that's some fast 260

Only way I could get my TT to do that is if I hit the pipe before I hit the gas...

Then anything is possible including space travel....

My 400E engine is starting to have rod-knock, I'm still debating whether to fix it (doubtful, with the alusil and all) or swapping it for another m119, anyone know if I'll run into trouble with a ASR m119 from a W140 or similar?

I remember seeing pics of a W124 Wagon that had a Lincoln V8/tranny dropped in it...the shop did a lot of Volvo V8 swaps. Scroll down a little to see the 300TE conversion.
