300TE Wagon
Question 300TE Wagon Speaker Replacement

Newbie benz owner here!

Any recommendations for speakers to replace the stock units in the dash and rear doors of our 300TE wagon would be greatly appreciated.

They seem to be whatever the metric equivalent to 4 5/8” would be.

Also, if anyone has installation tips for the same, that would be great.

Thanks,

JEff

Basically, if you replace with stock equipment, everything will fit nicely. The OE stuff is pretty bad though, so newer stuff is nicer, but harder to get in.

I know that Alpine 4" coaxials will fit in the dash because my 91 300TE has them. I also know that ADS A4is 4" coaxials will fit because those were in the dash of my 1987 300D; same as the 300TE. The rear door speakers, I don't know. I intend to relocate the front Alpine speakers to the rear doors and then mount the ADS A4is speakers I have in the dash.

Bear in mind that these ADS speakers are discontinued. Current models probably would fit. Find an experienced ADS dealer and check it out.

Some people have stuck with the stock speakers and simply added a quality subwoofer and used high pass crossovers to relieve the little dash/door speakers of bass duy. These people have reported excellent results.

Jeff i have a wagon and the tough part is there is no rear deck to house your speakers. i went through months of crap etc. to come to this conclusion. if you buy the OEM speakers from perhaps a newer model MB like a 94 or 95 they sound excellent. now i don't claim to be an audio expert but in fact i have very crappy hearing and need a very clear speaker. my car sounds great though. Its not worth the trouble because of the odd sizes of the rear door speakers.
godd luck
