w124 rims

Other day i bought only two rims AMG 18x8 monoblocks i hope that i'll find other two. One month gone no success I am thinking placing those on front and drive around with only two alloy rims as i can not wait any longer to put them on. I am just thinking is 225 40 r18 best tyre size for those rims on my car so even when i lower it later i don't want any rubbing? Would 18x9 be ok at the back or i should be looking for 18x8 at the back as well.

Thanks heaps guys

235 might be too close...i'd go with 18x8 all around with a 225/40/18 tire

i don't think there is anything that hasn't been covered in past 5years or howlong this forum exists, so we could just disable New Thread button

225/40R18 gives the correct outside tire diameter (25 inches) so your speedo and gears act stock.

width of the tyre doesn't have any effect on speedo

Yeah, ouside tire diameter (nominal inflation) is:

<width> X <aspect ratio> X 2 + <wheel diameter>

in your case :
225 X 0.40 X 2 = 180mm = 7.07 inches + 18 = 25.07 inches (close enough).

stock:
195 X 0.65 X 2 = 253.5mm = 9.98 inches + 15 = 24.98 inches (call it 25)

my car:
225 X 0.45 X 2 = 202.5mm = 7.97 inches + 17 = 24.97 inches (perfect)

So yeah, the width doesn't effect the outside tire dimension but, is used to calculate it from the numbers they give you about the tire.
