Getting a 300TE, have a few questions
Its all good.
Actually, it helps me a lot.
I've an update in my search. I came across a local '95 e320 wagon with 118,000 miles, white on grey, that I'm going to go check out tomorrow.
The asking price is $4500, but we'll see how it turns out and if I can drop the price down a bit if I like it.
The owner said that he replaced the SLS accumulators along with the injectors and a few other odds and ends and the A/C blows cold. Because of all of this I am pretty hopeful, not to mention that he has a German accent so I figure thats a good sign... lol
I'll snap a couple pics and post a report when I get back from checking it out tomorrow.
Sorry, no pics.
My first meeting with the owner of the 95 wagon fell through, but i met up with him today. A few days ago while setting up our appointment on the phone he told me that his mechanic found some oil in the coolant.
To get the the point; I showed up, chatted with him, drove the car around, got it up to speed, accelerated well, check braking, etc., etc. It felt good.
The body is straight with one small ding I didn't notice right off. Inside is 7-8/10, nothing a good cleaning wouldn't remedy.
I looked and didn't see any external seeping from between the head and the block, and I didnt see any other signs of overheating and whatever else you might associate with a headgasket going.
When we got down to it and he said he'd let it go for 3500. I am seriously considering it. What do you all think?

Even with 1000-1500+ tacked on for a headgasket, its a deal.
I'm curious if anyone else with a TE has had an experience like this, or has recently replaced their headgasket. If you have, how much did you pay?
I've done a few headgaskets on 4 cylinders before, but I dont relish the prospect of doing it on a straight 6 that I have zero experience working on.

Also, open the rear tailgate and check the footwell for moisture. Then open each compartment on the right and left and do the same. Look for any sign of moisture intrusion or corrosion in that area.
Good luck!
I think I have decided against the 95 with HG issues. I don't care to spend the extra money or have the downtime the head gasket work would entail.
Instead of that car, I found a clean '89 for $2k, with a recently replaced head gasket and other maintenance related items replaced, so I think I will jump on that.
