Are Continetal Tires the worst or what??
conti makes generals. general UHP's are very highly raved about in the BMW E39 (5-series between 96-03). i don't know much about the 124's except i'm looking for one but the e39's are EXTREMELY fickle about tires and balance. on the E39 you HAVE to and MUST balance them on a Hunter 9700 Roadforce (assuming the tech is knowledgable on the equiptment) to have a good ride. if you use anything else, it's a crap shoot as to the vibration and the shimmy feeling.
with that being said, the General UHP's are one of the best tires and the price is to kill for. too bad they don't make the size i'm looking for on my Fiske's.
ContiSport's are internationally known to be a tire good for nothing but contisport2's are actually pretty decent, quite, well behaved tires. the only issue with them is how fast they wear. i'm expecting only about 10K to 14K miles out of my set that i'll be putting on my BMW in the spring.
Michelins are generally considered the best tire for the money, big money too. I put Michelin on the Benzes.
Personally...I'd put the best tire possible (Michelin) on any Benz I'd own.

Perhaps a tad on the soft side.
A couple years ago I bought an 02 Volvo S40 that had these tires, which were date coded 2001. These tires were only 4 years old but they had bad tire rot from exposure. The car was bought in Philadelphia. I have reason to believe this car was local to Philadelphia. What could have caused these tires to rot in 4 years of PA climate?
Was SHOCKED to see the wear bars on the fronts (rears were worn too) and they vibrated like crazy at 125Kph. My wife drives the car around town and I drive it on the highway. I don't have anything to prove anymore (1980 Z28!!) so the car is never really pushed.
Replaced them with Khumos from the Tire Rack - VERY HAPPY
