rooney2006,
Your the guy I've been looking for! Someone who has done it and can say for sure. Can you link me to the actual flowmaster muffler you used? If what your using is chambered I believe that is where I went wrong but if you claim nice sound from the flowmaster, I'll try it. Is there that drone when your on the highway? or is it just enough and not too much?

When solving for tone, back-pressure always comes up. The theory is, too much of a free flowing exhaust will lessen back pressure needed by engine design to achieve rated horsepower. Meaning if she blows too free, you lose performance.
You may not care because it's slight loss. However, reading up on after market systems tuners use as reference, you'll find they vary pipe diameters and other components greatly per applications.
Guessing with so many variables is tough and subjective to the owner. One guy may think his setup is sweet with a drone at 60 mph, where you find it annoying.
The straight through Dyna is a miss. Throw that pup up on E-Pray. Stay with you current pipe dia. and find a quieter flavor. You may hit it next time. There are many quality brands to shop.

yeah, the straight through magna was a waste of money, Im going to buy another muffler and trade it for the labor, one of my buddies has a nice welder and offered to weld for it.

Sorry, flowmaster, dynaflow, magnaflow, flow-flow, I get 'em mixed up. They're all loudish and lean toward straight-through design. I've seen this movie on other car sites and the posts will vary like crazy for what one owner choses vs. another. It's clear you're looking for the ideal setup but again it's owner subjective.
Check this brand - flowtech (yeah, another "flow") These are not straight-through and a good value.

You
need to get a resonator in the system.Flow master is a diversion type muffler that bounces the sound around to make it marginally mufffled similar to your magnaflow.
guiet it down, mellow it out,get rid of the raspy tone.

or a similar unit propery sized and spliced in.
those old 6 cyl sound great if the proper system is found.

hmm allrighty, I'm really looking forward to that nice I6 tone that ive been seeking with no success, the magnaflow resonator seems a bit pricey would something like this serve the same purpose?

aero doesnt make them for benz's.. im debating whether or not i should upgrade exhaust or not. i love the way my car sounds when im in a parking structure or drive thru corridor.. is there any way i can make it sound like that everywhere?

With one of these, yes :

Only the 300T exhaust won't fit.

The Romulus exhaust is a special subdivision of our company that is reserved to high end market vehicles only. All the exhaust are fully electrolyticly polished to ensure a shinny and durable finish. The tips are also of even higher quality than our Regular sports line, it's the best we have to offer in terms of quality.

If you want to keep the current muffler you have a resonator would be the cheapest route. If you went with a new magnaflow (not the fancy polished ones w/ tips) and purchased a separate tip, you'll end up spending more not just for the muffler and tip but for the new piping as well.

$253.00 for the Catalytic converter
$160.00 for magnaflow stainless muff
$377.00 for labor & bending of stainless pipe
------------------------------------------------
$790.00 TOTAL
I exaggerated.

There is a guy on one of the cadillac forums who made a custom exhaust for his deville by taking a set of glass packs and using them as his resonators and then running a set of Flowmaster 40 series deltas. It gave his car a nice mean rummble while on the gas and all but eliminated his interior noise. But that was a northstar V8. It might work in this instance and it woulld save you money.
Also about I6's sounding like crap
I have a I6 wrangler that I put a high flow cat and a 40 series Flowmaster muffler and It sounds like a V8. Its intimidating at the very least. Like Zorro said it V6's that sound like ****.
!!!!!Dont get it twisted Fool!!!!!!
