So...What's wrong with my car?
Thursday was a weird day for my car.
The whole issues starting happening while I was picking up a couple of my friends so we can head out to the bars. I got to my friends neighborhood and had to make a U-Turn. As I was making a U-turn, I was probably travelling around 10-15MPH in a sharp U-Turn, while I was making this turn 80% through my car turns off and completely shuts off. At this point all the warning lights come on. So, basically I put it back in gear and start it back up and it works fine.
Later on in the night while driving home around 4:45AM I was getting gas at a local gas station a couple miles near my house. After I fill up the gas tank, I get back in my car and my car completely does not turn over. I try for about 10 minutes then I give up my by girl friend calls her friend who lives down the street to come by and jump start my car. Thinking it's the battery, I try to start the car over again and nothing happens. We keep trying and trying and still nothing. So, we give up trying and just start trying to crank the car over and over to see if it'll give since apparently there is nothing wrong with the battery. At this point, I call AAA (Tow Truck) to tow my car home. Once the Tow Truck gets there - I decide let's try my car again and see if it'll start and laugh if it does and next thing you know it does.. after about 30 minutes. I'm home now and as able to drive it home and drop off my friend.
Anyways, what could be the problem with my car and why it would shut off like it did earlier while I was making my U-Turn and later in the night after I fill up the gas tank??? Keep in mind I have a 1995 E420.
Could it be the crank sensor? Air Flow sensor? I'm really out of ideas at this point.
Also, I noticed my throttle cable is loose - Can anyone please post pictures of their M119 W124 motors throttle section alone so I can compare it with my own? Thanks!

is a German Tank
You got it started AFTER the jump? or did you end up turning it on before your girl's friend came to jump the car?
Sounds like an alternator to me.

Sounds to me like it your crank sensor. Has that been replaced ever since you've owned the car? This happened to me also on my daily driver and it was the crank sensor.
What were you and Lana doing at 4:45am anyway? LOL![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Chris, think also about the fact that cranking the steering wheel all the way to one side is how you reset the computer (as described to me by the tech at my MB dealership). My guess is that whatever mechanism (switch) that makes the interconnect between your wheel and the computer was effected when you pulled that tight U-turn. Just a thought...
[edit] This topic got me thinking, and after doing some searching on how to reset the W124 ECU without the computer, I feel like it has never been substantiated....lots of guesses and speculation only near as I can tell. I did find the procedure for W210's, but I am not sure that the procedure is at all the same. Having said that, if I said something lame in my original reply to your post, I apologize.

Chris - this sounds like a problem I had with my W124 coupe several years ago....turned out to be worn brushes on the alternator.

Sounds like the same thing that happened to my sisters W208 it was the crank sensor. Do you need me to pick you up for tonight?? Let me know before I get off work.

UUmmmm no. Race gas on LA traffic. Not such a very good combo. Considering the gas i use on the K is about $8+ a gallon.
Nice! Guess my invite got lost in the mail.

I thought about this also...When I was on my way getting gas with Rivca4life the other night my car started to sputter and it would quickly rev all the way up and not shift...Then I got gas and everything was all cool again? I was really low on gas at the time. How much is this part and is it easy to replace?

Chris, check your injection wiring harness. If you see any bare wire at the connectors, cut it open at the maf pigtail and verify.
The fuel pump relay is a normal looking green relay with a fuse in the top located under the rear seat passenger side. The earlier ones (circa 93-95) were known as problematic and you can check the date code to verify.
No check engine light? Did you check for codes in the DM, LH and DI systems? Has the car felt truly normal or sluggish lately?

Today the car was driving perfectly fine. The only time it was driving sluggish was thursday.
