1993 Mercedes 300e 4-matic (m103 motor)
ok i'm not gonna cut a hole in the hood and throw a $25 cone filter throught the hood. I was goign to put a k&n cone filter. And its a mercedes i wouldn't make it a fart can liek i said before. Just tryign to make it look better. I think the big as oval airbox is ugly.

DUDE, who sees that filter besides the tech and you when you fill up the washer fluid??
Save your money and put it into exhaust, suspension, wheels, maintenance, lighting...

whoa after reading this thread I kinda feel bad for the kid I mean you guys told him off pretty good... especially since I am doing the exact same thing to my car
btw forget fartcans.... i went with flowmaster. zorroamg you heard my exhaust at birch bay right? what did you think? I love that sound, very aggressive and when I am getting on the freeway it's fricken amazing
my next project is rebuilding the cylinder head, i burnt a full quart of oil driving up to Mt Baker on sunday so im thinking some valve work is in order. while the head is off I'm also going to do a port/polish and have a professional machine shop deck it. I did a compression check and it was 125psi +/- 5psi for all cylinders, very good tolerences but on the very bottom end of acceptable compression for this engine. Later this year I may do a complete rebuild.
*****to go with my port/polish I'm going to cut another hole into my airbox and run a separate intake hose into the bumper or something. You can call this car a ricer if you want, but I honestly I think it would take a lot more effort than a weird intake and loud exhaust to go from Benz to rice.

However, oh Grand Wizard of the Wubble U 124, I do believe I got some extra pony power from the 3 inch free flow cat I had installed.
Can't prove it - it's a response to throttle thing and I don;t have a dyno handy LOL.
On saying that though I don't know whether it's additional HP OR
replacing HP lost over the years due to the clogged/bogged cat on there (probably more likely the latter).
Now let's you and me settle this in a manly fashion and have a quarter mile drag. Um but you gotta disconnect 5 spark plugs before we start !

Well tell that to the mechanic that installed it, and yes it does give my car extra horsepower. Besides all this nonsense don't you have something better else to do? Get a life bro, go to work or something. Your literally arguing with a 17 year old like really?

I think we've found a successor to the Zach legacy.
You might want to listen to Ed, he's proven to be incredibly knowledgeable about w124, cars in general, as well as racing.

Cats yes, silencer no....
![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
During the dyno tuning on my TT we picked up 11HP with two Magnaflow 2.5" spun metal cats over a stock Merc 500SL cat...
The restriction is in the stock cat...
Downstream flow to the silencer remains the same with the stock cat...
