headlights alternate high / low beams HELP!

Hey guys,
my drivers side headlight lens broke (a pebble fell off the back of the truck infront of me on a highway), so i replaced the lens with a used bosch and put in a new bulb.... and i get this problem:
the drivers side headlight is in high and the pass. is in low beam, and the highbeam indicator on the dash is partially lit.
when I apply the highbeams, the indicator fully goes on, the drivers side headlight dims to low beam, and the passenger side headlight goes high, and the orange indicator light goes on.

basically, one headlight is always on highbeam...
I have tried different bulbs, cleaning the connections, but still does it. I had no problems with any of the lights before.. now i have no idea.

its a 87 300TDT, 130k, bone stock.

thanks for all your help!

did you open up the plastic piece the prongs are held in (at the end of the cable connected to the car) on both sides and make sure that each prong is in the right place?
