This was in late 2006 though. He may want the "K" number, which is on a sticker on the speedo... stock 400E is 7428 with 2.24 gears. Since you're doing a custom mod, you don't have a new "K" number to provide that you want it calibrated to... hopefully you can tell him your new & old gear ratios, and he can figure it out. It will be a higher number, somewhere around 9000 or so.
Next mod - depends what you're looking for... better braking? suspension? wheels? horsepower? headlights? etc, etc...

400E tire = 25.0 inch diameter, circumference 78.5"
500E tire = 25.7 inch diameter, circumference 80.9"
W140 tire = 26.2-27.1 inch diameter, circumference 82.2-85.1" (varies with model)
The 500E K-number is 9086 (shown here), but for a 400E with 2.82 gears the number would be lower than 9086. The problem is, you don't know how much lower. That's why the speedo shop should be able to figure out the difference needed based on the gearing numbers... they will feed X frequency in stock and see Y speed indicated, after the mod with the same input, the speed indicated should be (2.24/2.82, or vice-versa)% lower.

ok thanks. I am changing my tire size, so my plan is to get the tires I want on the car and then take it up on the freeway with the GPS. Record a range of speeds on the speedo and the corresponding speed from the GPS and report that to the speedo shop. I hope they can use that and get it close.

I figured out my K-number with my GPS, so the speedo goes to the VDO shop this week. I will finally have an idea about my actual speed again, and with this ratio, I have been racking up miles like crazy on the odometer. Here's an action shot of the LSD.

Nice video! Say, I saw you had some dyno runs posted too... did the eBay chip give you 3-5hp gain? I was going to try it on my car for grins, mostly to eliminate the pesky cold upshift delay (for heating the cats). Keep us posted on the speedo mod, btw!

I'm finally working on my LSD project again, btw... got the carrier rebuilt, and I'm about to install it in the 2.65 housing. Can't wait!

The eBay chip cost me 3-5 HP, but as Eric pointed out, the temperature was about 15-20 degrees higher on the day I ran with the chip. However the chip does remove the rev limit, it removes the cold start upshift delay, and it make the car run richer. So maybe with some K&N filters and a free flowing exhaust, you might see gains. The guy that sells the chip offered me a refund because I did not see an HP improvement, but it is worth it for the rev limit and upshift delay removal. It was only 70 bucks.

FYI LSD for sale may not be pertenant here but here it is anyway.
For Sale: Mercedes AMG DTM LSD Limited Slip 5:1 W201 W124 EVO 190
My son has a 5:1 Racing Limited-Slip Differential from a 190 EVO race car. We intended to put it on his 300E but it go totaled and ended up getting a 420E to replace it (diff wont' fit on that). The diff is in perfect condition, but it requires an oil cooler. My son is asking $850 OBO plus shipping. Email him @ defilersteve@aol.com if your interested.

I got an uncorrected 14.72@95.51 at an 1110 ft. elevation track with the stock 2.24 gears with my "2 bit tweaked" 400E....these cars can be made to run. (see time slip here http://www.clubtitan.org/forums/atta...8&d=1236989324 Here it is:

With a '92 LH module, my car has managed a 14.949 @ 95.76, not too shabby for 2700' elevation (and some extra weight due to heated seats, ASR, roller blind, etc). That was with an empty fuel tank, btw. Density altitude was about 3800' that day/time.

That's amazing! See I told you a person could do well even with the 2.24s! Were you or your wife driving on that run? Were you even running with the spare in the car? How did the non-kat resistor do? (Please don't torture me any longer!) What were the mods at that point? Was that 92 LH module for a 4.2 or 5.0? When are you going to start the promised thread on this car? If you'd get that thread started already, I wouldn't have to ask so many questions! (And sorry for taking this thread off topic). Regards, Eric

LOL! That was my wife driving, trunk empty but spare tire still in place. Stock EZL and standard trim resistor. No mods other than the '92 LH module from a 400E (4.2L). I haven't yet tried a 5.0 LH module, or EZL, that will come later - gotta test one thing at a time. After the dyno disaster I emailed you about a few days ago, I'm scheduled to try again tomorrow AM, so I should have some hard data then. I do need to start a new thread, but I'd like to have a little more information to share before I do so.
Back on topic: My 2.65 limited-slip diff is almost complete. I got the LSD carrier mounted in the ASR housing last night, which is NOT quite a bolt-in... had to modify (file / grind) a portion of the housing to make it fit (about 1-3mm of material removed from an area the size of a postage stamp - nothing major). I was expecting this, since the one other person who did this mod told me about it. Anyway, once squeezed in there, it clears fine. I did a test fit to check backlash & bearing preload, and the numbers are darn close (good enough to just leave as-is). But since I have some of the shims on the way from the dealer (coming out of Germany right now), I'll wait until those arrive to try and get it perfect. Once it's assembled, the final phase of the project will be installing into my car!
