1993 300E
My 1993 300E is POSSESSED!

My 93 300E has 125K miles and is trying to kill me. For the past year, it has been idling VERY rough; HOWEVER, sometimes, it will cut out completely - always at 1500 rpms - my husband put it in neutral once and floored it - it finally started running again after 3-4 minutes.

We have replaced the MAS, coil packs, plugs, and the top wiring harness - of these, the harness seemed to help but only for a month or so.

When the problem occurs, it almost seems as though 1/2 the cylinders are not firing; if I hold the pedal down, it will rev to 1500 RPMs, die to 1000, rev to 1500, etc. One mech says he thinks it is a computer problem - another says no way, it is electrical.

I have had this car for 7 years and bought it with 30,000 miles - this issue started around 120K miles.

Has anyone else ever had this problem???

Did you check all the fuses and replace the OVP relay?

^ Good idea. The OVP sounds suspect.

300E is possessed

I called the mech and he had tried the OVP a while back; even though they had been replaced once, he tried another set of plug wires - I have been driving the car for two days and no problems (yet) - could it have been that simple???????

Possibly, these cars are a mystery to me. I just defer judgement to my dad, he usually figures it out :p

Okay, my dad said these things are suspect:
1)Fuel Pump Relay
2)Ignition Cap
3)Rotor

He's thinking about other possibilites.

She doesn't have a cap or rotor, I don't think...Should be the M104 engine if not 4Matic.

Right. It's complicated which engine was used in what car. Here's the chart in 2 parts. The '91 300CE has the 104.98 engine with the cap and rotor ignition and CIS Bosch K-Jet fuel injection. Mary's car should have the 104.992 engine with the Hot-Film airflow sensor and coil packs with crank position sensor ignition system.

It is true that the Mercedes race car is cool, but there are lots of cool race cars out there. They ain't be no W124, but they are cool anyway.

^ All of the above race cars on the same track would be a race worth watching for sure! I'll bet the driver of that Lexus doesn't think it's boring.

that wasnt a w124 race car, that was a w204 :\ My favorite DTM car is the 190 evoII, favorite rally car is tied between 500SLC and Lacer Evo, favorite race car overall, probably the CLK GTR. Also, thank you for showing me that other cars exist! I TOTALLY wasnt aware that there are other cool cars out there. You have truly changed my life, I leave this place forwith!

I am happy to hear that you do appreciate cars other than Mercedes and the W124. Please don't leave, however, since we would all lose out if you stop participating in the conversations. Even I came back to the party, since I am still driving my W124.

I left so I could go play Sega GT 2002. I have quite a little stable of cars in that game heres what I have so far:
Benz 300SL Gullwing
Fiat Abarth 131 Rally
Zero (Japanese car, cant read the Kanji)
Mazda Savanna RX-3 Racing
Nissan Skyline GT-R Racing (70s Skyline)
Alfa Tippo 33/2
Ford Mustang GT390
Subaru Impreza 22B STI
Caterham Super7 r500r
Ford GT
Nissan 240z Racing
Dodge Viper GTS/R

In other words, cars I will never be able to own/drive for real, but at least I can enjoy them in a game. Looking at purchasing a CLK430, 190e evoII and a 500e next

In all honesty, you will probably have more fun with those cars in the game than you would in real life! In real life they would own you, and be one problem after another. You're onto something there! I think I'll get an old Kia, and a new Sega!

I was watching Top Gear about the Ariel Atom and he said 20,000 GBP or under used, but I guess times/prices have changed. Also, I went nuts and configed the car for the max cost. But what a machiene that would be to drive! I guess Ill work on getting my CE driving again first :C
