I've always had good luck with adsitco for both the W124 and my W123.

id like to get the rebuilt motor for my car but would not spend that much when i can just do it my self for 2 or 3k but the transmission. i would get a automatic is just to much head scratching for me to bother rebuilding. that and i got a look at mine the other day and it has oil burns and fire burns on it ?????!!!!!!!!
it has been rebuilt 2 times and leaks to much to bother with it. my poor car well i hope it holds to gether for a year or more so i can get to work. im also close to getting a job. im cutting my hair and beard off and a bunch of other things to look job friendly

How much do you think it would cost to have one of those transmissions installed in my1995 E320? I am just a little nervous, since my Indy and even the dealer seemed ill prepared or unwilling to even adjust my vacuum modulator. I might have to go a transmission specialist, even if I buy a rebuilt transmission, so I wonder about the difference in cost compared to just having whoever I find just go ahead and do the rebuild with the one I have. I wonder if it is really only good if you replace the trans yourself.
Thanks for the site anyway. It is great to know I can probably get a rebuilt trans and then get it installed for much less than the $5K I was quoted at my dealer.

Ken, don't spend that kind of money. I had a mechanic in downtown Seattle rebuild and reinstall my tranny for $2,500 about a year ago. And that was on the high end.

Mine was rebuilt in Nov. by a VERY well informed mechanic. He had all the tools and specific schematics for all mb trannys of that period.
Location: Anaheim, CA.
Cost: $1400, and that was only because I had to have my core replaced.
Would have only been $1100 without core charge.

That sounds like a reasonable amount that I might hope to pay. I see all kinds of low prices for transmissions and all kinds of other things, mostly from California, and I know I can never get the same kinds of prices here in Pennsylvania. My trusted Indy told me that he doesn't get involved with transmissions, but he sends them to someone that I guess he must trust. I've just been a little extra worried about getting the transmission fixed, ever since I had trouble just finding somebody that had a clue about making a simple adjustment on the vacuum modulator to try to help the shift flair. I have been similarly concerned about getting the front timing cover reinstalled properly so that it won't just start leaking again soon after the repair or going after some of the weird things with my HVAC system that would involve going into the dash. When things go wrong, sometimes the technology of the car and "over engineering" seem to be a disadvantage, in terms of finding a capable mechanic to do the work. That is part of the reason, actually a big reason, that I have been just letting things go and living with the issues. I guess I will just have to hope for the best when I ultimately get the work done. I trust my Indy. They are absolutely honest and I know they will do their best.

i do not trust alot of people to even touch my car. i would feel better if i did the work so that if i mess up i know who is at fault. my car may have its problem but since i washed and cleaned it out i forgot about all of them really. im really confident about the work i have don on my car. i have not had to go back and re fix the work i have done. but on the other hand i know that a automatic transmission is a ***** to work on and can be hard to put back together. im going with a rebuilt trans for mine. that and most shops i know do not give a 1 to 2 year warranty out if stuff goes wrong. as for the dash and trim stuff they sell on that site i would buy. i need new trim and a new dash along with alot of cosmetic stuff for the car. i have mostly cosmetic stuff wrong with my car and a shorting out alternator.
