I tried to put the rear wheel carlsson 1/6 18x8.5 et 35 the wheel will not move , i am not using a spacer yet I am however using the stock lug bolts, anybody had the same experience before? could it be the lug bolts are hitting it all the way thru or the caliper is on the way the struts are way clear, the fronts are cleared too with the stock suspension, any suggestions as how and what to do? appreciate the help, thanks!

Perhaps the stock bolts with aftermarket wheels are too long as you suggest.
I had the same issue with my Lorinsers. The fronts are not an issue, but the rears, if too long, will hit the emergency brake mechanism on the rear axle and not turn or damage those parts as they go around. My wheel shop said it is common to need to cut off a few threads when fitting aftermarket wheels on the rear of MB's.

BINGO! That's exactly what it is.

The solution:
Shorter bolts... as you would be able to see, the stock lugs are longer because of the OEM wheel fitting. Don't cut them off. I believe you have to go from an 85 or 61mm to a 2-inch. But first compare the length it sticks out from the after-market wheel to the oem wheel. The difference is what you want to downsize from. That's a much safer way to do it.

Depending on the manufacturer, you might have to go as low as 1 1/2-inch. These are available at most autoparts store.

Make sure that you also consider what the aftermarket wheel requires, a tapered or rounded head on the bolt. sometime just replacing a wheel isn't as easy as using the oem bolt. You may have to change your front bolts as well.

I used a 12 x 1.5 from Pep Boys for my ADR's w/ +35's.

good info thanks for the suggestion, I will try to do the install this weekend, I have the same yr and color of your 124 ,jgajito, I have been looking for these color and the blue black whichever came first with the betrter condition it took me two year before this car came, thanks again will see what i will discover when I do the rears.

do another quick test:
jack the car up, and put the bolts on, but don't tighten them all the way through, but enough so that they can take the weight of the wheel. then push the wheel all the way back to the hub, and see if it is contacting the brake caliper.
i had this happen to me, where the design of the back face of the rim was such that when i tightened the bolts, the wheel was tightening against the caliper on my front wheels, and it wouldn't rotate.
the solution was a spacer or new wheels, and i had bad luck with the spacers fitting properly on my front wheels (have 2 for sale, i give you good price ) so i got new wheels instead and called it a day.
just something else to consider

i have some 1/6 evo diamond. 18x8 et 35mm with 225/40/18.. using stock factory lugs that came off my car. everything fit fine but my wheels is not 8.5" whats your offset? and what size tires are you using?

Keep us posted on how your car rides with the 8.5" wides wheels on. Rubbing issues, turning issues and so on. I haven't seen or heard of too many going with that wide of wheel, normally 8" is the widest.

mine are 18x8.5 all around

no rubing issues at all and mine is really low... only when i enter places it touches a bit in front but rearly... and i've had 4people in the car all 160+ pounds

the tires came with the wheel 245x40 but I will use 225x40, the offset is et35, the fronts are clear of the struts has about 5mm or maybe more cearance that is visually have not measured it htough, it is the rear that is mind boggling but I will measure the lug bolts against the oem and carlsson and get the shorter if it does not work it is spacers i figured maybe also a 5mm spacer, but thanks for the info guys appreciate it

One more thing... please do not forget to keep 5 original bolts in your car for the spare... after responding to this a couple of days ago, I had a flat, and guess what? the aftermarket bolts were too short for the OEM Spare... $8 a bolt at the closest dealer...
