Worst day ever

Changed my spark plugs and my wiring harness fell apart in my hands. Bought a new one from the stealership, total came out to $1,005 after tax. Brought it home, put most of it in and then realized it was the wrong one. Spent an hour taking it out.

What the hell is so wrong with parts departments that multiple people, who claim to be parts professionals, cannot figure out the correct ENGINE WIRING HARNESS for a vehicle. It really isn't that hard. Put in my VIN and model and what else is there really to do?

Now I have to miss work and hope that they have the right one in stock tomorrow. I am furious right now. Not only did I spend a grand on this collection of rubber and copper but its the f***in wrong one. Come on, Ray Catena Mercedes, step it the f*** up.

1000 bucks

for a harness?Did you call ron at germanstar.net or duval motors?or autohausaz.com for a quote?
Spending a grand on a harness for a car that's only worth 3grand would be the thing that upset me

It was worth it for me because they had it in stock and I am a very busy person with no time to sit around and wait for a shipment to come in. For $60 more than mercedesshop is offering it, I had no problem going to pick it up that day, and attempting to have it in by nightfall. However by nightfall all I had were two wiring harnesses laying on my garage floor.

that is one heck of a pricey harness
At least you got such a sweet deal on the car that you are still ahead.

Back in the late '90s you could get them for $3-400 but when MB discovered that sooner or later every E-Class made from '93 to '96 was going to need one they decided to capitalize on it. Now you really can't get one for less than about $850. Brilliant plan.

One question.. where did you get the three grand figure from? Someone needs brushing up on their values.

My 95 E320 is in perfect shape, minus the wiring harness. Clean inside and out and I do all the work on it that I can myself (maintenance, etc).

Nada

is what the dealer uses for chumps.
When 60k mile 1999 c43's are going for 10grand and low mile 1999 e320 are selling all over the country in the high 8's do you really think you can get more then 3-4 k for an average high mile 95?
Sorry but that is the reality of the sinking mercedes resale market on private party sales.

Yes, yours is above average but you can find them for $3000 and less on Ebay in lesser condition.

Well, if RC Edison doesn't have the harness I need, then I will be calling Millennium, RC Union, MB Lawrence/Princeton and David Michael MB until I find what I need tomorrow. My car must be on the road by tomorrow afternoon.

ford is not bad............it seems like all they do is keep with there ideas and dont take what people say they need to fix or make better to keep the cars selling and running well....................i do say MB dose over think stuff for there cars but in a way that can be good and bad. bad becuz when some thing brakes it can take alot of time or money to fix some thing that needs to be custom made to only work for that car. meh im over is for the most part i just try to enjoy my car for what it can still do and not for what i want it to do.

there are times i look at some of the newer benz driving around and wish it was me but other time i don't wish it was me. i like my car it is not to hard to work on once you under stand how it works and it is kinda easy to fix with the time and effort. the new ones have all the computer stuff and new things that i just feel is kinda more like a device put in the car to keep stupid people form killing them selfs when driving

08 Lexus GS350 AWD. 08 Lexus RX350 AWD - wife's. 94 MBZ E320 - still have it.
Just curious, how much time did you spend on replacing it? It took me 1 hr and 10 min. Before I did that, I called the local dealer in Salem, OR. The little ***** that runs their service dept. quoted me 7 hrs labor. BWT I paid $845 for the made-in-Poland bunch of wires Mercedes that is calling the "wiring harness".

Maybe that's how MB is funding their R & D these days.

Before I go to a stealership I make sure I have the correct part number.
I leave nothing to chance with my baby. Hell I had to tell the mechanic it was the wiring harness when I first found out it was shutting down on me(Thanks to the people here on mbworld and my own research). He didnt believe me till I had him open up the harness and powder and bare wires fell out.
