Hood star alternative??
Bought my 94 e320 with no hood star on it. I am thinking rather than putting a new one on every couple of months that I would rather find something else to put in the place. Do they make or has anyone ever seen a plug/plate that replaces the oem Hood star. I guess I could always sharpen the star to a razor edge so that no one could pull it off sucsessfully but I could probably get sued for that.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Id hook it up to the battery leads myself
Some use a "sports" star, much like on the cars taht use the sports grille how they have the blue benz cap. I dont know what its called.

yeah, I don't know where you get a "flat badge", but do a search for that.

why do people either take theirs off or shave them? if your proud of having a benz than why remove the benz emblems? it seems like your trying to hide the name of it?

I like it but, sometimes I feel like it's a reticle for shooting people... it's probably what the Germans wanted it for... LOL!!!
I do also prefer the smooth hood look, it helps with the aerodynamics.... makes the car look modernized and goes faster...
J/K either way, it's a personality.

Berti, it's not a pride thing at all. Everyone knows I'm driving a mercedes, and even if they didn't, it wouldn't bother me. I'm not driving a mercedes so that people will say "woa, that guy's driving a mercedes". I drive it because I think it's a great looking, well built car.
I think the hood star dates the car quite a bit. Nothing wrong with a car showing its true age, but I personally want my car to keep up with the times. Very few cars nowadays have hood ornaments.

For me I bought the 124 because of the style and platform. I understand what your saying about the star. For the most part I like a stock look with a monster under the hood (shoulda waited for a 420) so that folks don't know what I got. The only things I like to change up on the outside are small details that would only stand out to an enthusiast, i.e. hood badge, modest but very functional rims and rubber and so on. But under the hood is a different story. My plans include ported and extrude honed head and intake, exhaust, ECU upgrade, Underpulley (if it will work on the 124) and various other things. I should be able to get her up to about 250 hp with the things I have planned. My last car was a little 97 Saturn sedan. It was plain jane but I did work on it. From the outside it was a beater but what was under the hood allowed me to take most any non turbo 4cly around me (Car only wieghed 2200lbs.) The look on folks face when they can't get a round a crappy stock saturn sl (so far as they knew) is a blast. I am looking forward to doing the same in my 320 and it is a much better place to start from than the 100hp I started with on the last car..

I've tinkered with the idea of taking off the star, but for now, I think it is so much a part of the car, I'll leave it.
I have seen round, blue & silver MB logo plugs exactly for the purpose of filling the hole where the star goes. I think they are factory MB for some C-classes, cabriolets perhaps, where Mb wanted a sportier look than the base sedans had.

of course i am proud to drive the benz, i'm not trying to hide it by shaving the emblems. and i'm not going to show it off by putting that huge emblem thats 1/2 the size of the car. i just had a chance to paint the grill and i myself think that it looks cleaner without the emblem. thats just me though.
