I must have sprayed half a can of WD-40 inside my door and an ounce of turbine oil. It made no difference at all. You may have to take the panel off.

No heat when it's cold outside is probably a bad thermostat if the engine does not warm up. If the engine does warm up but there's no heat or reduced heat, it's probably the monovalve/aux pump.

There is some all purpose white grease in an aerosol can that might help with the door noise. It is a bit thicker than WD40 and will stay in the hinge for a good year. That might help.

I think the problem is that you can't get the lube to the part that makes the noise without taking the panel off. There's something deep inside the mechanism.

That makes sense. There are a lot of buried stuff under the skin of the 124. Guess that is how they accomplished the sleek look....and extra labor charges at the dealership.

Often the noise from the door opening and closing comes from a worn out "door check". It's that flat metal piece in the door jamb when you open the door... it's basically the only part in the door jamb that connects to the door and the body of the car and ISN'T a hinge. Here's the part; it isn't too expensive either:

That almost looks like you could replace it without removing the door panel. Do you just unbolt it and slide it out? That's too easy!

Does the engine reach temp when it's cold outside? If not , you just need a thermostat.

The other part is called a monovalve/aux pump. The following website calls it a heater valve solenoid. http://www.autopartsguru.com/RenderS...=autopartsguru

Nope, it goes inside the door and the bolts hold it in place from the outside. The is a third bolt you can only see with the panel removed as well. You'll want to replace this item before it breaks, as once it does, it can move around in there and damage things. Mine broke loose from the door and broke the window regulator the next time I put the window down.

Cruise control can be a lot of things. You'll probably have to take it to an expert for that. Sounds like your heat problem is the monovalve/aux pump, not the thermostat if the engine is warming up and still not much heat. For $275 I'd want to make sure. When the heat is on, you should be able to feel the pump spinning. It's in front of the battery.
