Hypothetically speaking... paint
I think I could find random hours within the next month despite classes and work during which I could undertake a project like this, though I don't want to spend all that time to end up with a ****ty finish, or a half sanded car...
I haven't done any of the work on my car except for changing HID's
I figure if I'm ever going to learn and make my modding truly my own doing, now is the time to start. Is it worth it? As a first timer will it look like ****? I'm pretty patient, and don't mind redoing things, I think the biggest problem will be priming it for paint, as I've never sanded paint off a car before.
I'm just wondering if this is feasible? I need someone to talk me INTO doing this, not out of it.
You say you have patience, so I say why not? Just take your time to take apart every necessary component carefully, and label everything for reinstalling.
Look up as many articles as possible on sanding a car until you feel confident enough to really do it. I say get a keg and invite over as many friends as you can to help you with the actual sanding, or your 50 hours are gonna get eaten up fast.
Good luck!
Any idea how much money I'm looking at for paint/supplies?
Can someone pchop my car in flat black?
Maintenance isn't a problem with me, I'm absolutely crazy about keeping my car clean and dust free, I usually do a little cleaning every day I take the car out anyway.
Besides, the paint has seen better days, could use a touch up, especially the hood, so why not take the time to individualize my car, I haven't seen anyone with a flat black w124. Then I can maybe carbon fibre the remaining chrome bits, carbon fibre on flat black is HOT.
I want paint like this: https://mbworld.org/forums/slr-mclaren-c199/192490-flat-black-slr-722-a.html
Or is that too "different." It will either make the car look really good, or really cheap.

But as for the paint...I recently repainted mine the champagne/ smoke silver...and I did it myself. The only thing I was worried about was the orange peel look. But I just wet-sanded that biatch and it looked awesome!

Here is an example of what i'm thinking of doing but in black because i'm getting black wheels too. I want to do a combination of matte and gloss black.
I want to do a combination of gloss and semi gloss black...
I like this one...one thing about flat paint....your body work has to be perfect!
Body and paint work scares me. For me, either I'd save up the money for professional work or do nothing at all... I know you said you don't want to be talked out of it, but you're talking about biting off a huge and high-risk project!
Get some books and some videos. I think videos would be even better because a lot of good paint work has to do with the "art" of it- the "brush" strokes, the prep work, etc. Reading about it won't be as powerfull as seeing it in action.

Im very partial to piano black myself.
