Wheels for the E420

I got these off E-bay for a good price, until the shipped them.

Went from no curb rash to curb rash and a ding, but I think I can get them cleaned up.

I'm gonna try to sandblast the chrome off so that I can get paint to stick to,er maybe.

Sandblasting will tear up the wheel, you would be better off getting them dechromed at a shop that specializes chroming.

lots of cars
There is this toilet bowl cleaner that has sulfuric acid that may take off the chrome but i rather have someone professional do it. Chrome is too hard for sandblasting so it won't work. I say get them scuffed and painted silver or black. If you want to re chrome you'll probably end up spending the same amount of money that a newer nicer set cost.

My car is no peach at this point, dings paint missing,me driving it etc...

If I can rough them up enough with media to paint to stay on we will be good.

I was told that the acid will etch the wheel enogh for the paint to stick.

the paint may stick initially, but it won't last very long. My understanding is that you really won't get a good finish unless you

1) dechrome them (via a chrome shop, not by mechanical means such as sanding or sand-blasting), AND

2) have them powdercoated rather than painted. Even the best paint job won't hold up to the abuses that your wheels experience. But paint on chrome would be even worse.

X2 on the chemical strip (professional), bead blasting or sanding to smooth them out and powder coating for a final finish. Many powder coat shops will do them turn-key BTW. They sub out the chem-stripping portion of the job.
